Hi cousin- Alva Robert Calvert was born in Graves County Kentucky not
Paducah.(Graves County Birth Records). Mother was Rosannah J. Colter and
father Robert Levi Calvert. Robert died of typhoid fever in Graves County.
His parents were Levi Newton Calvert and Martha Farr. Alva Robert was called
Alva Robert and not Rose. My mother, her Granddaughter, was named after her.
Levi Newton's father was also a Robert Calvert. Alva's Father is listed
as R. J. Calvert and there is a nice obituary, of sorts, along with one of
his father and mother on the Cumberland Presbyterian web site.
In O'Gorman's book the family is found under the Chapter "Robert of Graves
County, Kentucky". O'Gorman did an excellent job considering the era she did
her research in. However, some of the info she was given about our branch,
and Rosannah's second marriage are incorrect as you know from Rosannah's
bible which is in my possession. The elder Robert had two wives of which
neither is known. From his second marriage there was a daughter named Sarah
Jane who married Rosannah Coulter's brother Nathaniel. Some of their
descendants migrated into the Texas area also and were around the San Angelo
area. Another was named Porter (according to O'Gorman) and was suppose to
have migrated to Texas. I tracked a Robert P.Calvert into Bowie County Texas
and lost them.I found a marriage in Tennessee to a Nancy Porter with Bondsman
Robert Porter. I suspect this was Robert's second wife and the son was
actually Robert Porter. The census for Bowie County lists a Robert P.
Calvert. and with the naming patterns being what they were at that time it is
likely this is his son Porter.
Ssome sources believe that the elder Robert Calvert's father was Joseph
Calvert. Robert was in Elbert County GA at the same time as several of
Joseph's other children and according to O'Gorman one of the sons of Robert's
first marriage was named Joseph. They all left Elbert County about the same
time and settled in the same area of Tennessee. Robert is supposed to be
mentioned in Joseph's will. Several of Joseph's children each have
chapter's in the O'Gorman book but she was unable to connect them and neither
have I been able to.
