Larry,
I cannot specifically tie myself(yet) to Jesse. That is just one
of many possible ancestors of my Calvert line. I was all over
WV and Greene Co and due to the assist from other researchers (Calvert, Criss, Fairfax,
Cooksey and so on)
I have made a tremendous stride by finding primary documents for my ancestor Thomas C
Calvert Sr C= Clair or Clare though I believe the latter. Thomas d in 1868 after filing a
will in 1866. It details second wife, issue and from
cemetery records, family data etc we now have firmly fixed
this Thomas, greene Co, Hoy and Rudolph run, with many other calverts in the same area
Ezekiel, John, and so on.
Thomas C Calvert Sr father was Isaac who married Fanny Bullitt. Old Blacksville Cemetery
has a recut stone with the chiseled name Faney Bulet used as a footstone for a grandau. FB
Calvert who was Fanny Bullett Calvert.
Name spelling in this era was tenuous at best. Even Thomas C Calvert Jr was noted in the
census data as Colbert or Colvert. Spelling, literacy, use of the language not being
standardize, phonetic pronunciation and other reasons. Colbert was Calvert in a lot of
cases or I would say probably all that came from england or ireland and are found in
records one way or another into the 1800s.
My guess is you are looking at John Colbert of the PA
Wash. Census of 1790, correct? I am now looking at him as well. I added surnames to the
message but detail a bit
of my ancestry:
Isaac b1735-1748/9 m Fanny Bullitt, dau of possibly Benjamin Bullitt, and sister of
Cuthbert Bullitt of VA.
Thomas C Calvert Sr b1768 m Anna Ewing of MD at mapletown PA he m second a
margaret (primary, secondary doc). he was commissioned by WH Harrison, War of 1812. He
built a grist and sawmill in greene co pa btw 1813 and 1818 or so. at the age of 85 Thomas
was tyring to obtain bounty land for his service in w of 1812 due to the 1855 act of
congress.
Thomas C Calvert Jr b1803 m Elizabeth Johnson
Albert Galaltin Calvert b1830 m Mary A. "Polly" Cain.
He was an educator, farmer, and later a WV house representative.
John Ewing Calvert b1856 m Martha Lemasters
Arthur Calvert b1876 m2, Lena Ensinger 4 issue but 3 died before age 30. m3 Amanda
Sylvesta Rose in OK. was sort of Oil field pioneer in WV OH and OK. At Kittyhawk for the
first airplane flight, founded the first baptist church in OK Ter
after the land rush and before statehood in 1908.
Dorthey Lee Calvert Bell, b 1922 of AC and Vesta,, my Mother.
Hope this helps give you something to try to associate to. I believe that Isaac came out
of eastern PA and possibly also VA. Certainly family heritage among my Calvert Kin,
including Harlan and Lemasters indicates a Md Heritage.
