Hi Dewel,
I am a decendant of slaves owned by James Calvert of Chickasaw Co., MS, the region now
known as Clay County. I have been searching for quite sometime for information that might
lead me to a possible connection to the point from which my ancestors embarked into this
country, and it turns out that our families have known each other for over 200 years.
My family has been with you all since William Calvert first left N. Carolina. Or at
least, this is what my information leads me to believe. Would you mind filling me in on
some of the specifics of what kind of time William Calvert, one of the original Calvert
brothers of whom you speak, spent in N. Carolina? Were there any Calvert relations that
led him to the Carolinas? Where in Tenn. did he actually settle? I am aware that his son
James by 1840, owned about 35 slaves and farmed a $10,000 estate. In what ways did
William manage to amass a fortune such that his progeny were left relatively well off? My
family, family information concludes, that we first arrived here in Maryland. In the long
run, I'm trying to track down hard eidence to buttress theis belief.
I eagerly Await Your Reply.
