Hi Karen
I have given considerable thought to your Alexander, son of Cynthia who ends up in KY. I
have been unable to figure out with any degree of certainty who were these Calvert Cousins
she must have married. Since Alexander plays a role in given names in my line, I thought I
was really on to the father of Isaac of Greene County. Turned out to be untrue but the
material will aid those whose ancestor is William Calvert(Colbert) who married Bridgett
Howard--I am pretty sure that this William is the son of Isaac Calvert son of Alexander
and Mary Wheeler.
I will say that I have not been thinking of Alexander and her mother Cynthia directly but
via adjacent investigations for Colberts who are Calverts out in KY and Champaign Co
IL...Jesse(Plural).
Right now I am focused on Temperance Calvert as you can see some of the exchange on the
Melungeon Board at
Gen.com. As soon as I exhaust that I will return to your line.
Have you a male descendent that can participate in the DNA project? We are sitting at 20
DNA samples and some real surprises came out, namely these Colberts of KY and IL match DNA
from Calverts or Colberts verified as Calvert(John who married Catherine Lynn). I am sure
Laree Lee will see this post and if she has a thought she will post it.
You have my email so if you have someone to help out with DNA it would be great! more than
one line would be better and others you might encourage.
Regards,
David

Do you have any further information on Alexander Neal Calvert? You may
remember that my brick wall is the husband of Cynthia Calvert (dau of George
the Younger of PWC). Her oldest son (and my ancestor) was named Alexander.
I keep my eyes open for Alexander Calvert's.

In researching the potential ancestor for my oldest known, I had found
Alexander
Calvert, father of Isaac Calvert of Greene Co PA. So much fit that
I thought that I was on the right track. Isaac was identified as Colvert
Colbert and Calvert in various venues. His older Brother William also, as
they are identified as Colbert in the census of 1890 Queen Anne's Co MD. One
known son via a court record of Isaac Calvert is Levin who is identified as
both Calvert and Colbert.
Alexander Calvert was b c 1720, I believe in MD but cannot prove it. He is
the
likely son of William Calvert, Planter, born my guess, c 1690 - 1705. by
1726 he is a Planter as Identified in perogative court records, Coventry
Parish, 1726 and 1733. He is the right age and locale to be the father of
Alexander Calvert; William is in Tax lists 1730-1740.
Ella F. O'Gorman, in letters to John Bailey Calvert Nicklin suggested taht
JBCN
seek the surname Colbert when searching for Calverts descended from
William Calvert, PSOM 1642/3 - 1682(Drowned Wicomico R, border of Somerset
County.
Alexander married Mary Wheeler 1744 Coventry Parish Episcopal Church.
Children of church record:
William Wheeler b 1744/45
Isaac b 1746/7
Alexander Neal 1753
Betty 1756.
In another record of the county is Belle, b 1759.
Alexander Neal is in Census data, Dividing creek. In 1810, if I recall the
correct
census, there is a Michael Colbert, and Alexander N Colbert.
Isaac himself is still in Somerset as Colvert in 1820 so he isn't the
Isaac of
Greene Co PA(My Isaac Calvert).
Isaac has a son, William Colbert according to two of the researchers whom
I have
communicated regularly, and a son,
Levin, whom I found in court records last week, mentioned in the Will
of a
Samuel Handy as Levin, son of Isaac Colbert.
THere is a marriage record, Old Swedes CHurch, New Castle Co DE of Isaac
Calvert
and Elizabeth Gart. The researchers pointing at this indicate this
is the marriage of Isaac Calvert / Colbert who is the father of William
Colbert noted above. This William, b 1768, married Bridgett Howard in 1796.
I will leave the remainder of this descent to those researching William. I
believe he is the William in the Queen Anne's County Census of 1790 who then
followed the common westward migration into Western VA, PA and Ohio and
KY(William certainly the latter).
I have passed on to Ray Colbert what I had found on all of these SOmerset
County
Colberts and Calverts but would be
glad to do so for anyone else. I do believe they are Calvert. One
particular Calvert associated family is the
Doyne Family who were in St. Mary's County. One brother,
Ethelbert lived
in Somerset County and he died there. His brothers Jesse and Joshua
at
least, related to the descendents of Robert Doyne whose dau. Elizabeth
married George Calvert the elder born 1668 who lived in St. Mary's and
migrated to Stafford County, VA.
>From the records, William Calvert b 1690-1705 probably married a Nancy. I
think
she may have been Nancy Handy.
There is a lot more material that I can provide for anyone interested.

David Bell
