Hi all;
I have a bunch of ne information o my long standing brick wall, and
would love to have some brain power assistance put to it.
I am descended from Charles Calvert, born about 1803 in Virginia. We
know his year of birth and that he was born in Virginia, from
information on the 1856 and the 1870 census for Red Rock Township,
Sydney, Fremont County, Iowa where he is living with his son, William
Calvert (my ggg-grandfather).
He was a widow by the 1856 census, so I have no idea of his wifes
name.
I found a cousin who is also descended from Charles, and whose father
participated in the Calvert DNA project. Through the DNA project, it
appears as though this Charles Calvert is a direct match to others who
are descended from Thomas Calvert and Mary Emily Gray with Thomas
being a son of Reuben Calvert and Sarah ______.
So here is my problem. There are lots of records showing that this
Thomas Calvert moved from Virginia to Nelson/Washington County Kentucky
no later than 1796-7. My Charles wasnt born until 1803.
I checked the maps and Prince William County, Virginia, and Washington
County, Kentucky are about 500 miles apart. Washington County,
Kentucky is at least 180 miles from even the West Virginia border, so
it seemed unlikely that the family made a trip back home to Virginia in
1803, and that Charles was born there. Unlikely, but I guess not
impossible.
So do I disbelieve the Census records that were made when Charles was
alive as to his birth place, or do I disbelieve the DNA findings that
he was directly related to Thomas Calvert who moved to Kentucky before
1797? I doubt he was the son of either of Thomas oldest children as
Bennett didnt get married until 1806, and Reuben didnt get married
until 1809. Although this makes Bennett 20 when my Charles was born,
it makes Reuben only 16 when my Charles was born and that is stretching
it and in either case, then Charles would have been born out of
wedlock. On the other hand, obviously Thomas and Mary could have still
had another child in 1803, as the last one I found for them was Garrett
born Jan. 1802.
So does anyone have any thoughts, ideas, or additional information for
me to figure out this Kentucky/Virginia anomaly for my Charles?
Thanks for any thoughts and help any of you can give.
