It was happening in the 1950's, but cannot give you any substance at all. I
knew then that while a gentleman truck drivers mother was left alone that
she signed off. Some elders in Kentucky and Missouri would know of this,
but my sorces are deceased. Loran Calvert

Okay, another thought. Several families provided documentation to
this
Anita Bourgoise and/or her Husband. They were "The Calvert Heirs" or
something like this in Kansas City KS. I have some copies of letters and
notes from this person but no idea which Calvert family she was from...I
heard once or saw it but don't know it.
The reason I ask is that the material gathered must have been sent
somewhere and hopefully stored. Any ideas?

I think this whole "Calvert Scam" thing is really quite fascinating! My
family (descendants of William Calvert/Elizabeth Nodding) also paid money to
people who said they were trying to make a claim against the last Lord
Baltimore's lands in Maryland, holding out the promise of millions of
dollars to be distributed to those who could prove descendancy. And I'm
pretty sure there are some older relatives in my family who still think
there is money sitting out there to be had if only they could prove the
claim. I wish I had the time to investigate this further and put together a
Web page on the whole thing--I think a lot of people out there would be able
to contribute a lot of little bits and pieces to make it quite interesting.
I have heard that a lawsuit was actually filed in Baltimore, but that it was
dismissed because, if there were any land claims that had not been properly
dealt with at the time, far too much time had elapsed to allow any claims
these days. So I was pretty annoyed hearing that my relatives in the past
had contributed money to something which seems so obviously to have been a
scam, but I am not so sure anymore that things were that simple. I think
perhaps there were multiple people involved in this thing, and that it
happened a number of times, some of them actually with good intentions. For
example, how did O'Gorman get her information? I know that, concerning my
specific branch of the Calverts, half of her information is wrong, but also
that it accurately reflects what the relatives at that time really did know.
Anyway, to get to your question, from what I think I do know, Anita Calvert
Bourgeoise lived in St. Louis, so that would be the first place to look for
any papers of hers that might have been saved. The St. Louis City Library
(not the County library), at its online catalog at
<
http://www.slpl.lib.mo.us>, shows the following three entries. Since I
don't live anywhere near St. Louis, I haven't seen these, and they are all
non-circulating. But it's possible these things might have gone out to
other cities and be in their collections as well.
