I don't know if this question has been asked before, but are there any members of the
CALVERT family out there, who are related to HENRY CALVERT died 1917?
The Gorton Local History Group has been approached by Adam Carter, a pupil of St.
Peter's RC High School. They have a war memorial plaque for Henry Calvert which they
wish to return to his family. I thought I would ask you for your help.
Henry, called Harry was born in 1879 and was one of seven sons.
His parents Reuben and Annie Calvert lived in Whitworth Street, Openshaw, Manchester, UK.
His brother Reuben lived at 11 Soapery Street, West Gorton.
He married Catherine who lived at 164 Thomas Street, Gorton.
Harry and his brother Reuben worked at Armstrong Whitworth's a cotton factory.
He joined up on 8th August 1914 and was a Corporal of The Loyal North Lancashire
Regiment.
Harry had already been a soldier in the Boer War.
He was killed, along with his brother Reuben, on 4th August 1917, near Ypres, during the
battle of Passendale.
Another brother was badly injured.
In 1917, his wife Catherine and her four children lived at 13 Jane Street, West Gorton,
just off Thomas Street.
