The Calvert Surname Project - Family Tree DNA
The Calvert project at FT/DNA is nearing 100 participants in the project. The following
groups are represented(as we define them based on geographic origin or family history:
Calverts Lord Baltimore - All participants in this group share a common ancestor.
Subgrouping is occuring based on more granular testing(37 markers). Ostensibly all
members of this group descend from George Calvert b 1694 Stafford Co VA or his older
Brother John.
Calverts Lord Baltimore - other. We have family tracing which has differing DNA results
but stem from those claiming or documented to William Calvert of MD, removed to TN and
many to Missouri.
Calverts of the Deep South(TN/AL/Tx) - And Botetourt Co VA -This is one of our major
success stories, moving backwards from the three brothers documented in Dewel Lott's
Book, Our Calvert Kin. We have demonstrated that descendants of Robert Calvert of Calvert
Tx, Edward Calvert of TN b 1788
and the Calvert brothers of Botetourt are descended from this same line of Calverts -
perhaps from Richard b 1669
of MD, son of William PSOM 1641 circa 1682.
The Quaker Calverts (my line) - I worked on finding my ancestry within the framework of
the Lord's Baltimore. Researcher's Jim Calvert and Jim Ray, along with Sylvia
Whitaker and myself provided a framework of documentation, proved that all of our lines
stem from John Calvert of Mooresome, Near Gisbrough, Yorkshire, who removed to the Ulster
Plantation Settlement of Ireland between 1610-1617. This group became Quakers in Ireland
and removed in the person of John Calvert b 1648 who married Judith Stamper at Stranmillis
and removed to New Castle Co DE - later into upper Providence of Chester Co PA.
We have other smaller groupings and continue to use DNA to bridge gaps in records. It is a
time consuming process but it works.

The accompanying research project is a group of more than 100 followers and perhaps 20
active researchers. It is a Yahoo group. You must be a member(due to spam, etc).
