The Calvert Surname project is in progress and a subcomponent of the effort is the Calvert
Alias Harrison mystery.
John Calvert married Jane Harrison, sister of Burr Harrison, son of Thomas
Harrison(Captain) and from this union, apparently, John had 3 sons, Thomas, Burr and
George, all three identified in court records for legal purposes, as "Alias
Harris". This includes George Calvert of Deephole Farm and the Horseshoe. He married,
keeping in mind thatt his is my own conjecture:
1. Mary Gosling
2. Elizabeth Harrison
3. Jane Harrison
I cannot tell you the order of the marriages though I suspect that it was: Elizabeth
first, Jane second and Mary Gosling third(Mary Calvert, widow in PW County records after
1739
and John died in or before 1739 but after 1731).
You will find perspective from different researchers on the order of marriages, further
that there was a marriage to this person and not another. I believe there is legitimate
reason to believe that Elizabeth Harrison, dau. of Benjamin III who died
circa 1712? (I am going by memory here) was the first marriage(or maybe even the 2nd of
John Calvert). Of course, John is commonly accepted as being born in 1692. This has always
troubled me in that his father George would, b 1668 would be having children sooner...and
even so, perhaps even George was born before 1668. At any rate, There is a Byrd Diary
which indicates that Elizabeth was about to be engaged. It does not name the person to
whom she anticipated marriage.
Jane Harrison is accepted as the mother of the trio of Alias Harrisons but that too
remains unproven.
The project has 4 samples of DNA 2 of which match each other but none match any Calvert
Sample to-date. We do not have enough samples for me to even make a statement in regard to
the success of the effort.
You can go to the DNA project Icon and review it at
calvertgenealogy.net or go to
familytreedna.com and find the Calvert surname project to review information there.
Bottom line remains: We just don't have any proof of anything at this time. I continue
to work on this "subproject" as time allows. Any help in recruiting more
paritcipants for the DNA project(either descendants of John or Descendants of Burr Calvert
Alias Harrison Alias Harris(of Abbeville, Old Ninety Six SC)) would be greatly
appreciated.

Ella Foye O'Gorman states only that John Calvert married Mary Gosling, daughter of
John. I believe that
