The Calvert Historical Foundation has begun restoration of the Sterling Cemetery. This
cemetery contains 400 burials of the pioneers of the area including Robert Calvert b.1802
of which the town of Calvert was named. There is an Historical marker that was placed
there in 1973. The cemetery, is just a few miles down the road from the city of Calvert.
When the rail road came through the area the entire town of Sterling was abandoned. The
cemetery is all that is left of the once thriving town of Sterling. The sight has been
neglected for many many years. This historic sight deserves to be cared for!! If anyone
who would like to donate time or money to this project please go to
CalvertHistoricalFoundation.org.
