Bandjoswald: (I could not discern your name from the post).
I am somewhat the "unofficial" monitor for the William & Elizabeth
Nodding Calvert line on the
CalvertGenealog.net website. I am a
descendent of William & Elizabeth Nodding Calvert through their youngest
child - Jabez Calvert. I am a trained genealogist as well as an
attorney. I live some 45 miles south of Salt Lake City, and over the
last 40+ years, I have spent hundreds if not thousands of hours trying
to determine the parents of William Calvert. I have also corresponded
regularly with several others who have likewise spent inordinate amounts
of time trying to solve the puzzle of William and Elizabeth's ancestry.
I can tell you with great assurance that notwithstanding what you
may see on any Internet site, at the present time the parents and
ancestry of William Calvert *remain unknown.* We still simply have no
clue who they were. As far as I have observed, any source that shows
the ancestry of William Calvert [1757] is speculation. There is not a
single known reliable source that gives any hint of William's parentage.
While you state: "It is documented amongst most genealogical
researchers, periodicals and reference books that Elizabeth Calvert's
line goes back to George Calvert, the first Governor of Maryland, and
beyond," I do not know of any researcher, periodical, or reference book
that gives any documentation or reliable sources for a lineage of
Elizabeth (i.e. William) back to George Calvert and beyond. If you have
something that has been overlooked, then by all means there are numerous
descendants who would dearly love to have a reliable source for such a
connection.
As far as the parents of Elizabeth Nodding, I have created a
"Nodding Family" website where I have posted everything I know about
them. You can find it here:
www.code-co.com/rcf/ancestry/nodding.htm.
The website is in need of a serious update to include additional
information I have, but the basic conclusions there remain the same. We
know the parents of Elizabeth were William Nodding and Mary ________?
Again, we know Elizabeth's father was William Nodding, and her mother's
first name was Mary, but beyond that, little else is "proven." We do
know that Mary's maiden name was NOT Brewster or Bruester, and that Mary
was NOT the daughter of Thomas Brewster. I explain all of this on my
webpage.
We all wish we could cite to a reliable source showing William's
ancestry. There is much suspicion that he may have been connected to
the "Deep Hole Farm" clan. One DNA test has hinted so. But nothing
definitive has yet been established. There is certainly no source known
that connects William [1757] with the Lords Baltimore [or "George
Calvert, the first Governor of Maryland"], nor with the Stones,
Harrisons, or Graves.
I have a rather extensive "work in progress" on William Calvert's
life which is similar to what I have done for William Nodding. I would
be glad to send you a copy directly if you will send me an email. It
deals with his supposed (and in my opinion misguided) claim of
Revolutionary War service, as well as other facets of his life. my
email address is: rcf(a)code-co.com
As part of the Calvert DNA project, years ago I began compiling a
database of /every/ known male descendant of William & Elizabeth. This
eventually turned into a database of every known descendant. I would
very much like to know your lineage back to William and Elizabeth so I
can include it in my database. I am very sensitive to information on
living persons, and do not share such info with anyone.

I am a descendant of Elizabeth Calvert (1796 - 1846), wife of Lewis Broyles (1795-1837).
It is documented amongst most genealogical researchers, periodicals and reference books
that Elizabeth Calvert's line goes back to George Calvert, the first Governor of
Maryland, and beyond. This lineage could be flowered with the likes of William Stone (3rd
Governor of Maryland), Captain Thomas Graves and the Benjamin Harrisons III and IV of
Virginia.
Given so many strong Virginian names I want to be sure that I am correct in this
"name dropping" in a family history book I am going to embark on writing.
Is there a particular book that you would recommend to definitely reference for the
correct lineage of Calverts (which also brings in the Nodding family as well)? ... or
maybe some specific references that have been found to be incorrect and NOT to reference?
Thank you so much!!
