Good Evening Calvert Listmates, I am new to this List. I am the List
Administrator of BOSCHONG the Swiss spelling of Bushong. While researching
Andrew Bushong I have discovered that he married Elizabeth Calvert. We were
surprised by this since past Bushong researchers and a certified genealogist for
the family had reported that Andrew Bushong was married to Elizabeth
Carrier. The problem with that was there was no paperwork to support this and we
could not find a marriage record for that particular couple in Shenandoah
County, VA. Everyone leaves a paper trail if you know where to look.
After some in-depth research in Shenandoah County, we discovered that not
only had the last name of Andrew been misspelled in transcribed printed
books as Houshong, but Andrew was married to a Calvert not a Carrier. Now we
are hoping to find more information on Elizabeth Calvert. This has been a
brick wall for a long time because of the incorrect last name of the bride.
A friend of ours copied the microfilmed original record from Shenandoah
County housed at the County library at Edinburg for us because I didn't want
to deal with Richmond. We both examined the record and concluded that this
was indeed the record for Andrew Bushong as his signature was very clear as
Bushong as was the name of his bride as Calvert.
What this marriage record told us was that since Elizabeth Calvert's
mother Mary Wright wrote out the permission for her to marry, Elizabeth Calvert
was underage, and the present husband of Mary Wright was not the natural
father of Elizabeth Calvert. In other words, Mary was first married to a
Calvert and had Elizabeth Calvert, and then married Abraham Wright who put up
the bond. Here is the transcribed record. Hopefully someone who sees this
may connect and be able to fill in the missing Calvert blanks.
