LuAna,
As a descendant of George Calvert, I have the following information on his family.
He had a sister, Dorothy who married a Smithson. There was also mention of a brother
Christopher, who, together with his brother George, was removed from his father's home
to be taught by Mr. Fowberry at Bolton. The mention of George and Christopher is from the
Yorkshire High Commission Act Book 3. However, there is no additional mention of
Christopher, so one assumes he died young.
Mr. James W. Foster of the Maryland Historical Society began a biography of George
Calvert after extensive English research. Unfortunately, he died with only 3 chapters
finished, but he does relate that the Calverts had been known for generations in Yorkshire
and families were establlished in each of the three ridings.
I suspect that your ancestor John may be a cousin, since George's father Leonard
was one of three brothers, the other two being John, Jr and William. Also, George Calvert
was born 1579/1580 at Danby Wiske the same date as your John.
