Jim Ray,
Does Buckey indicate that John Calvert 'father of the colony' is related to Lord Baltimore? I have seen references that say he was, and references that say no. Thank you.
Peggy Calvert Robbins
Jim,
I am now certain that the Isaac Calvert of your line is not the same
as my Isaac Calvert. I have believed for quite some time that there is a mixing of various calvert lines. I have sorted this out to:
Isaac who died at Age 122 in PA and was buried on the family farm near Dunkard Creek.
Isaac Calvert acquired a homestead on the left branch of a
creek which flows into Dunkard Creek about 1/2 mile below
Blacksville.
Ida Calvert wrote a letter from Silverhill Wetzel WV to her uncle Thomas Miller Calvert(Dr.), Hugh Ewing Calvert's son, HE being the brother of Thomas Clare Calvert my line(Their Father, Thomas C Calvert is buried on the family farm which he owned, oddly, both
owned by Calverts in 1921 at the time of the letter dated 1921.
I know my line of Calverts came through the Dunkard Creek area. By
179?, Dunkard Creek became part of Greene Co. Isaac would have been
b circa 1735 and died at age 122, his wife Frances Bullett lived to be 110 and is buried in the Blacksville Mon Co WV cemetery(old cem). of my line also is buried on a family farm in what is now PA. The footstone
of Isaac was found on the family cemetery in 1921 but not the headstone. Thomas's tombstone was broken in 3 pieces but readable.
HE and Sarah Ann Miller are both buried at pleasant Valley Cem in PA
and I have photos of those tombstones.
I am trying to put together all my research notes and get it online
with my data base.
Here is a list of courthouses and gen societies that I visited on my
vacation.
Wetzel Courthouse and library.
Marshall, Courthouse and Library.
Tyler Courthouse
Mon Co Courthouse and Library.
Greene Co, Courthouse, Library and Gen Society(PA).
Fairfax Co and Louden Co Courthouses.
Barry and McDonald Co Mo.
I acquired an accordian file folder full of data, documents,
notes etc.
I surveyed two Calvert Cemeteries in Wetzel as well as 4 Lemasters
Cemeteries, 1 Postlewait and several large cemeteries including
photos if I could read the stones.
It will take me quite a bit of time to sort this all out. I have
not found a will for Isaac nor any other formal doc... I wonder
which Isaac it is now which is in your line. There are 3 or 4
possibles ie, 1735, 1742 1749 175x? And which is mine. Right now
it would appear that the 1735 date is correct for my line with
two references now pointing at his father as Cecilius b 1702.
I would then presume that the one of the other isaacs is your
ancestor but I don't wish to confuse the issue and say that this
or that is sure. The letter indicating lineage and burial locations
etc is my firmest source yet.
As soon as I can make sense of all that I gathered I will get you
the data. Below, find Ida Calvert's letter.

Letter To Dr T.M. Miller from Ida Calvert who lived at Silverhill
Ida Calvert Silverhill, WVA Jun 1 1921
To: Dr T.M. Calvert (Thomas Miller Calvert, Son of Reason Calvert,
Grandson of Thomas C. Calvert)
Dear Uncle:
We came home from Greene Co Last night and have nearly all the information you desire.
We found the Grave of our great Grandfather Thomas C Calvert
on the hill above Roberts Run on a farm owned by RIchard Calvert's son (Thomas)Tommy. The Plot is fenced but the stone was there in
three pieces. When we got the stone out of the ground we found the inscription perfect.
We next went to Isaac Calvderts old farm now owned by Richard Calvert's son John. He bought it about a year ago(1920) from S.C.Brock. We found what we thought to be the spot covered with brush and briar's but John had his boys cut and rake the briars and at last
we found a grave, part of a footstone was there but the head stone was gone. We scoured the whole region but did not find the other stone.
We next went to the old graveyard at Blacksville and easily found
the grave of Anne Ewing Calvert(Anna). The others were satisfied with their find but there were so many old stones there that Clark and I insisted on looking at them. We found a stone marked Fanny Bullett Calvert. At the head was a larger stone that had been recut with the name Johanny Margaret Calvert on it but it was very old and there had been something else on it earlier. We could make out a few letters an I believe it is Issac's Tombstone.
We went to the Valley Chapel Graveyard and found Grandfather's and Grandmothers Graves in good Condition (Hugh Ewing Calvert and Sarah
Ann Miller Calvert--Hugh's stone says HE Calvert and neither is
in good condition now--Photos available).
Lisan Conklin says that Thomas C. Calvert and Anne Ewing Calvert were married in Mapletown but she did not know the date.

3 Different views on the ancestry of My Thomas C Calvert b
1767 to 1784 (varying).
Isaac Descendency
----------------------------
Isaac Calvert acquired a homestead on the left branch of a
creek which flows into Dunkard Creek about 1/2 mile below
Blacksville. Known Children of Isaac are Thomas Ezekiel Isaac Jr.
Thomas was Eldest b 8 11 1767 and died 5 11 1868. It is he who started two businesses on Rudolf Run where he later would build two mills, one on Hoy Creek and one on Rudolph creek, both tributaries of Dunkard Creek. His land was at the conjunction of the two creeks where they ran into Dunkard Creek... This is near the current village of Brock. He is the grandfather of Albert Gallatin Calvert, was commissioned by William Henry Harrison for the W of 1812(fort Meigs and Tippecanoe) as documented on page 203 of Hardesty's History of WV Counties-Wetzel. He
received a land grant in then VA Tyler Co later to become WV Wetzel in 1846. This grant is documented in Wetzel Co.
His son Thomas Clare Calvert and grandson purchased land in the same area as the Land Grant that Thomas Received
on Lynn Camp Run (the purchases were made above lynn camp run the left hand fork of Fish Creek).
Thomas was B 1767 came to the dunkard creek area in 1808 and built a sawmill on Hoy Creek branch of Dunkard Creek. Later he built a grist mill which was one of 51 Grist Mills of Greene Co at the time of the 1820 census. He helped repair along with John Carter, the mill of Col John Minor at Mapletown in 1811 and he built his own grist mill as noted above in 1813.
There is historic information that the mill works were hauled over the mountains from Maryland.
Thomas Married Anne "Anna" Ewing b 5 11 1773 died 6 30 1842. and they had 9 children. Anna died and Thomas Married a Margaret, LNU at this moment. Apparently they had one child, Susannah or this child was the D/O margaret by the first marriage. The 1850 Census shows Thomas has a D/O born 1845 in his household.
Thomas Jr(Thomas Clare) is my family line. Children of
Thomas C and Anna Ewing are: John D b 7/2/1804 d 10 6 1896, , Thomas Clare born 1803, Eleanor b 1 13 1804 died 1 2 1858, Hugh Ewing b 1805, Margaret b 8 25 1805 d 1 20 1881. Sarah Miller b?, Clare b? , Matilda b mar 9 1811 Mary Anne b 1815. Susannah b 1896 was the eldest child of this family. She was b 9 30 1796 and died 12 6yt 1884.
Thomas died in 1868.
Thomas Clare married Elizabeth Johnson. I do have the issue of this marriage but that is in my data base at home. I am on Vacation and will post the issue of this marriage after 7/21.
Hugh Ewing Calvert married Sarah Ann Miller. in the 1860 census, Thomas C is living with him in Perry TWP. Hugh and sarah had the following children in this census: Mary A age 22 last name Conner. Thomas Miller age 17. This Thomas became a medical Dr and practiced for 70 years. Catherine age 17, Sarah A. Conner age 1, Wm Delany age 18 Margaret age 50 and Susan age 15.
John calvert married elenor who was born the same year as he. They had the following children:
Lucinda, Richard John William Charlotte Melinda and Francis
ages 17 13 11 9 and 7 in the 1850 census with Melinda and
Francis ages 2 and 4 months in the 1860 census with only Charlotte of the first 5 siblings still at home and now age 16.
Before living with HE, Thomas had his own HH in the 1840 Whitely TWP. He is now 73 but census shows 60 70, a f 20 30, his wife 70 80. 1 maile age 0 - 5 a male 30-40, 1 female
0-5 1 5-10 and 1 f 40-50.
Susannah m a Rose and then Chalfant. Eleanor married a Thralls, Sarah a Miller and Margaret a Marshall.
Hugh Ewing's line is fairly well documented but I will post it here as much as I know.
Susannah Calvert Rose is documented in the 1850 census living with Ewing Calvert. No Children are listed with her.
Susannah Married again to Robert Chalfant(no issue) d 12/6/1884 and is buried at the Valley Chapel Cemetery as are both HE d 11/20 1881 and Sarah Ann Miller, Hughes' wife died 3/1/1886. Susannah 7/29 1860 d 4/28 1888 wife of L Delaney and an infant daughter buried with her.

Account 2 via the Conklin family research, part of it interspersed with my notes above shows the following:
>From the notes of John Conklin he indicated he was born oct 23, 1889 the son of Josiah Conklin and wife Malissa Dulaney, grandson of John Delaney and Matilda Calvert who was b Mar 9 1889.
He was the great great grandson of WM Calvert b 1753 who married a wheton in 1777. Son of Reason Calvert b 1722 who married harriet Bryan. His 4th granfather was John Calvert b 1786 who married Margaret Robinson and his 5th great grandfather was george Calvert b 1661. This is the same line I had originally pursued but documented via the Conklin family. I don't have any supporting documentation but find the note on Reason(resin rezin very interesting as it mirrors the RD Furlong Book.
The above Conklin notes and the following are from Dorothy T Hennens collection on Calvert Research. I do not know who provided the following but it mirrors the Conklin view.

-----------------------------------------
George and John are of Geo of 1661 or 1668 of the Lord Baltimore line. George and John arrived from England in 1661.
George b england in 16612 was a surveyor and did the south Plat of Baltimore in 1714. He was a law enforcement guardian 1701 to 1708. His sons were William George and John and 2 daughters Celia and Mary.
William the younger cam from England to MD in 1705 and was an agent for the London Fur Co in Balt. 1706 to 1719. John was born in 1786 in Sussex came to balt. along with his parents in 1691...an innkeeper by trade in upper Baltimore city 1721 - 1730. He along with Dr. Samuel Eckerlin made their way to the middle potomac river and purchased furs from the indians and traders(counechnee indian's) and set up a trading house at Long Meadows in Frederic Co MD in 1726.
In 1728 he placed Col. Thomas Cresap at the post as their agent and Cresap continued the post until 1745.

William, son of Reason grew up in Frederick Co MD and moved to Bedford PA in 1775. He was a Rev war soldier 1777-1778 and again in 1781. He married a Wehaton.
Thomas B about 1784 ...see Millright story above.

Correction and two addendums:
The notes on Thomas and Eliz. Monroe.
This is not the Thomas that was b c1765. That is his gg
grandson....
The issue surrounding Thomas and Marriage remains as to
Anna ewing. That I found Thomas C. and the Dunkard creek
connection was the breakthrough and also the land grant
was the breakthrough. Below find the Family Cemetery survey
at the Calvert Homestead on Harlan Ridge above Lynn Camp
Run the Lyn Camp Fork of Fish Creek is below where the
purchase of 100 acres of Land by Thomas Clare, and then
subsequent purchase of land by Albert Gallatin also on
Lyn Camp Run below the homestead on Harlan Ridge.
Sorry for the confusion.
So the Story is: David Webster Calvert would not ride
in Automobiles. He walked everywhere sometimes telling the
family sometimes not. He walked from the Calvert Homestead
near Silverhill to Fairmont and then back over and down
to Dunkard Creek to visit relatives. Dunkard Creek runs easterly down through the mountains and into PA. his favorite saying was Sigh-by-God. Ray Calvert was full of
Stories about DW, Vance Ranlett Calvert who was Ray's Father.

Thomas C. was in Greene Co and owned a grist Mill.

Message Board Post:
In a letter to her Uncle dated May 30 1921 Ida Calvert indicated that she and other members had found the grave
of Thomas Calvert on a farm owned then by Richard Calvert's son Thomas "Tommy" Calvert above Roberts run in Greene
Co. Thomas owned a grist mill on Dunkard Creek. This part of Greene Co was originally part of Monongalia Co. The Tombstone was broken in 3 pieces but was readable at the time. They went to Isaac Calverts old farm now owned by Richard's son John. They found the base of a tombstone but not the marker itself.
They then went to Blacksville in Monongalia County and found Anne Ewing's grave. There is an old stone there
documenting Fanny Bullet Calvert. Another with the name Joanna and Margaret Calvert who were daughters of Fanny and Isaac. This was from a larger stone that had been recut with the older lettering on it but only a few letters readable. Ida mentions that she thought this was the original tombstone of Isaac and Isaac may have been moved to this cemetery.
According to Ida, Isac lived 120 years and was buried on
the Brock Family Farm at Blacksville WV. The northern boundary of this town is in PA. Fanny Bullet(Frances) is also buried at Blacksville and lived to be 116 years old.
I have other Calverts and other lines in this Cemetery. Further: Blacksville is on Dunkard Creek near where it runs into PA. These Calverts would be in the old Blacksville Cemetery which lies on a ridge above the Blacksville Cemetery, perhaps 400 or 500 yards in a direct line from the NW corner of teh new cemetery.
Hugh Ewing Calvert and Sarah Miller are buried in PA. Their
son, Hugh Ewing is the father of Thomas M. calvert the uncle to whom Ida wrote. Thomas Miller was b nov 10 1840 and died mar 2 1935 and lived to be 94 years old. he was a MD.
Elizabeth John Calvert b 1 11 1842 lived to be 85. I don;t have her death date.
Thomas Calvert shows in the 1850 Perry TWP census
#172 farmer and valuation of 2000.00. He is 82 which puts his
BD at 1768. in the house hold are margaret 81 and Susanna
4 all b PA.
Ewing shows as 188 and 185 valuation farmer age 46 so
the 1805 BD is probably correct. In this hh are sarah age 50, reason age 17 Mariah age 12, thomas age 9 Cathrine age 16 Susanna Rose age 53 and Penina Delana age 19(I think this is Delany. Btw, Ezekiel who showed in the 1810 whitely twp is now 70 #87 in the Greene TWSP wiith Rody age 70
whom I believe is Rhoda Debolt Daniel age 13, Margaret age 10 Elisha age 26 Griffin age 23 and Lidda 19. There is a John Calvert 48 in Wayne TWP age 47, Richard age 13, Lucinda age 17, JOhn age 11, William age 9 and Charlotte age 7.
John's wife Margaret did not show up in the 1850 census but
does at age 62 to John's 786 in hh 88-91 in wayne twp with malinda age 21, fanna(Fanny?) age 20 eliza Jane 18 and Rebecca M. age 16.
Ida is Reason Calvert's Daughter. Note the varied connection to the daughter of DW Calvert who had a daughter named Ida who married a Grimm and is in the Calvert Family Cem. She said Lesa Conklin wrote her that Thomas and Anna Ewing were married at Mapletown but had no dates.
I have discussed with others the connection of this Isaac to
the Quaker line and even they address the fact that he was
at Brandywine during the RevWar. Dale Harlan married a Calvert and talked about his grandfather talking about the quaker line but this was not Hampton Lee his grandfather but his Harlan Grand father. Dale's Parents are buried in the Harlan Cemetery on Harlan ridge Rd above a fork of Lynn Camp Fork of Fish Creek.
I haven't sorted this all out but at least there are clues to
ties in my family line that is tied to Dunkard Creek, Blacksville and Wadesville. I believe I should find Thomas
Clare b in Mon Co VA later to become part of Greene Co PA.
and note that Albert G was b mon co VA though I found no Birth record for Thomas C or Thomas Clare in that county's records. I only had time to check Greene Co but a note in this letter indicates that Thomas C was b lancaster co pa.

I bought the book. His Calverts are indeed in Chester Co and Quakers, but
the book quickly follows them south and doesn't touch any left in Chester
Co.

Hi! I don't have that name in my files, but what was his sons name? I know there are some Calverts that still live in the Athens/Limestone County area. Karen
Cathy,
Most likely, your Calverts are the Quaker Calverts. Check out The Calverts
who were Quaker by J. Richard Buckey. See if there is any help there.

Hi,
I have two Thomas Calverts in my line and Several Sarah's. I have
demonstrated to my satisfaction that my Thomas C. B in c1765 m
Elizabeth Monroe and reported her death Wetzel Co in 1843. There
are Several Sarah's in this era.
I am in WV researching right now and plan to go to VA on Tuesday.
Upon return from my Vacation I will dig into what I have on Sarah(s).
My line though is MD not the quaker line.

Have been looking for Calverts in South Carolina. Only decendent can locate is A.H. Calvert married to Florence Foster. His son moved to Athens, AL in early 1900. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank in advance
Dan,
O'Gorman says "Hugh Parral owned 466 acres adjoining the land of John
Calvert. He may have married John's daughter Ann Calvert, as his will probated
October 5, 1748, mentions his wife Ann, his sons Daniel, Joseph and John; his
kinsmen John Bruce, his son Edward, daughter Christiana "not yet of age," and his
cousin (which frequently meant "nephew"), Robert Calvert.
Later, it says
"Issue of Richard and Sarah (......) Calvert:
i. John Calvert b. abt. 1765; d. abt. Nove., 1838; m. Jan. 21, 1821, Anne
Parrell. No issue. Will dated Apr. 1838; proved 3rd day Dec., 1838. He
bequeaths to Sarah Parrill, widow of Joseph Parrill, dec'd, and her three single
daughters, viz: Eleanor, Sarah and Mary Y. Parrill, all his real and personal
estate when and wheresoever it be found: viz: Thirty-one acres and a half of
land, lying in Frederick County joining Arthur Carter and others, also some
revolutionary claims, and furniture of all descriptions to them and their heirs
forever."
Also: John Calvert who died in 1738 and his wife Jane had children Rebecca
and Ann, Richard, Robert, Isaiah. "Ann b. prob. abt. 1725; perhaps m. Hugh
Parrell"
Hope that helps.
