My wife's father, Alfred Earl Calvert Jr. was born 1907 in Nodaway Co. MO. His parents were Alfred Earl Calvert and Erma Patterson. A.E. Sr. died in an accident in 1907 there and Erma married a Chronister. Some decendants tell me A.E. Sr. father was Hannable Calvert. This I have not proved, but I do know of a brother to A.E. Sr. His name is Hubert Calvert. I have nothing more, but hope this ties in with yours.
DUHHHHHH still me. How could it be the one in KY.?
Reuben was dead. Sorry, I guess I had a senior moment.

The Burr Harrison alliance with a
Catholic Calvert woman sounds interesting, like something out of the
Scarlet Letter. As a history major in
my early life, seems we did not think of the "puritans" as a
denomination
of the Protestant faith more as a "commune" or sect like we consider
the Amish. Perhaps Burr Harrison was a member of the "anti-Baptist"
faction
of the Church of England? Guess I'll have to get out my church
history books but what is the approximate date again?

The Harrisons were a family closely allied with the
Calverts of early Stafford and Prince William counties. A
great many Calverts claim descendant from Lord
Baltimore through his great-grandson, George Calvert of
Stafford county; the son of William Calvert who in turn
was the son of Leonard Calvert, the 1st Gov. of Maryland
and son of George Calvert, the 1st Lord Baltimore.
The first written record of "a" George Calvert being in
Stafford County was a bill of sale for a cow belonging to
Richard Nixon and being sold to Burr Harrison. George
witnessed this bill of sale on February 19, 1688. He
would have been about 20 years old at the time if he was
truly the son of William Calvert.
Later in 1723, we find a will recorded on page 99 of Will
Book "K", where a Burr Harrison left 200 acres of land on
Quantico Creek to George Calvert alias Harrison, Thomas
Calvert alias Harrison, and Burr Calvert alias Harrison.
This Burr Harrison who left 200 acres of land to the
Calverts alias Harrisons was the son of the Burr Harrison
who purchased the cow from Richard Nixon.
My suspicion has always been that the second Burr
Harrison was the grandfather and that he raised the boys
after the death of their father, who most likely was a
Calvert. The names George and Burr suggest that two of
the boys were named for their grandfathers Burr Harrison
and George Calvert.
The George Calvert who settled in Stafford County,
Virginia was almost certainly a Protestant and a member
of the Church of England. He was involved in several
lawsuits in the early 1690's and was supported by the
Protestants who at that time were persecuting Catholics
(namely William Brent). The Harrisons were also Church
of England in the 1690's. I have never seen any record of
Puritans as far south as Stafford County during this time
period.
Other families closely associated with these early
Virginia Calverts were the Gibsons and the Kirklands.

It left me dumb founded.

Re Crupper. Geo. Calvert #50 in O'Gorman m. Anne Crupper ca 1739. Jacob
Calvert #51 s/o John #29, m. ca 1745 Sarah Crupper (not certain). Lots of

the line of Christopher of Amherst. Barbara M. Calvert
Fellow Calverts,
I seldom write to the list, however when John Bailey
Calvert Nicklin is cited as reliable source of information,
perhaps a word or two is in order.
The first wife of George Calvert (lineage George, George,
William, Leonard, George -Lord Baltimore) is Constant.
The written proof is in a deed dated 16 June 1731
recorded in Prince William County. The deed clearly
states "greetings know ye I George Colverd and Constant
my wife". The deed still exist and be examined by those
in doubt.
O'Gorman presents the deed on page 25 of her book. The
deed was witnessed by Edward Barry, George Harrison
and Edward E. Gannon. Edward Barry and George
Harrison are known to have been neighbors of George
Calvert. And for those believing George Calvert, Edward
Barry, and George Harrison conspired and recorded a
deed falsely naming Constant to be George's wife; we
can add further proof by noting that one of George's
granddaughters was named Connie.
The bottom line -don't trust Nicklin's work, unless it is
supported with written documentation.

As to Constant and Sythia Elizabeth being the same person -- I do not believe
they are the same person. In the Maryland Historical Magazine XXVI the wife
is identified as Sythia Elizabeth Harrison. This article on the Calvert
family was written by John Bailey Calvert Nicklin and published in 1934. It
has been an accepted source for many years. In case you have not seen this
article, he follows the Calvert lines down through several generations. Bev.
Does anyone know of a marriage
of a Crupper or Cropper (woman) to one of the Calvert men? I believe
it's one of the George Calverts in the late 1800's in Cooper or
Pettis County, MO who married a Miss Crupper. That is the
connection to
the main line of Calverts of Maryland/ VA, etc and my William and
Elizabeth
(Nodding) Calvert.

How did you determine that Constant Calvert and Sytha Elizabeth Harrison are the same person?

In the book "Descendants of Va. Calverts" she is called Constant Calvert.
All other sources call her Sytha Elizabeth Harrison. There is a Anne Sytha
Elizabeth Short who married Thomas Harrison that would be the right time
frame to be the parents of this Sytha but she is not listed in the children
of Thomas and Anne. This is someone I have been working on for several years
and have felt she is somehow related to Burr Harrison. Burr is the father of
Thomas Harrison. I will let you know when I find anything else. Beverly

While I was in Ft. Worth over the past week-end I found two LARGE books on a
Calvert family that is not related to Lord Calvert. If and when I go back
maybe I will have time to write down the particulars. Vicki K

I have been looking for Sytha Harrison, wife of George (d. 1700 Stafford co.,
Va.) In the book "Register of Maryland's Heraldic Families, Vol. 1" p. 327
they list her as Sytha Elizabeth Short Harrison. Does anyone have an info on
this ancestor and does this by some chance been she was a Short who had been
married to a Harrison before marrying George? It also goes on to tell the
lineage of the Calverts. It states Leonard Calvert m. Anne Brent 1642,
sister of Margaret Brent. (I know this is accepted by some and not others.)
It states they were daughters of Richard and Elizabeth Reed Brent of Lake
Stroke and Admington in Gloucestershire and granddaughter of Giles and
Katherine Greville Reed of Tusburie and Witten. He was descended from King
Edward 3rd of Eng.
Thought someone might be interested in this.
