Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
(This message is automatically sent to the list once per month!)
Hello all!
[If you are receiving this post, it means that you have somehow gotten
yourself subscribed to a genealogy mailing list at Rootsweb.com. If you
are having trouble unsubscribing from the list and wish to, please reply to
me at christib(a)satx.rr.com , quoting this email, INCLUDING ALL HEADERS, and
let me know that you want to be removed from the list.]
Hello and happy Easter 2000! First, I want to thank each and every one of
you for subscribing to this Rootsweb genealogy list. It is time now for a
brief word from our sponsor :)
List guidelines:
All Rootsweb lists cannot accept HTML or Rich Text (RTF) formatted email or
attachments, please make sure all email is in plain text format before
sending to the list. (For more help on setting up your email program to send
text only messages, please visit
http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm )
When responding to a list email, please change the subject line to reflect
and changes in topic. Also, when posting a query, please be as specific as
possible in your subject line. Subject lines such as: "Surname query" will
most likely be deleted by the majority of list members, however subject
lines such as "Smith, John; London, ENG>Columbus, OH; 1800-1910" will
attract the attention of anyone researching that particular person. Another
example is this: "Smith family: John of London, 1800-1910>Sally of Columbus,
1905-present".
Please feel free to visit the surname resource pages at Rootsweb as well as
our personal mailing list pages by going to http://www.rootsweb.com and
clicking on Surname Resources for the Rootsweb page and to the Mailing list
jump page at http://jadis.dartech.org/genealogy and selecting the list name
for our personal mailing list pages.
If you wish to respond to the entire list, just send your message. If you
want to respond to ONLY the person who sent the message, you will need to
change the "to" line in your email to be that person's address instead of
the list address.
If you have a problem with another list member, please do not post to the
list but rather send email to the listowner (christib(a)satx.rr.com) and we
will handle it off list.
DO NOT forward Chain letters, off-topic posts, or virus alerts to the list.
This is cause for removal from the mailing list. There are two sites
listed below that deal with these potential hoaxes. Please check one of
them and then email the listowner if you are still concerned. If there is
cause for real alarm, she will address the list.
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.htmlhttp://www.cai.com/virusinfo/
DO NOT forward other people's mail, email or copyrighted information to the
list at any time without specific permission of the author (and clearance
from the listowner). This is another cause for removal from the mailing
list. This prevents "information stealing" and hurt feelings on the list.
If you receive, personally, a query that you think the list might help with,
please send it to me and let me forward it on.
DO NOT attempt to sell, advertise or distribute products to the list members
without prior authorization from the listowner. Doing so is cause for
immediate removal from the list. If you have a genealogy book you have
written that you wish to let people know about, please alert the listowner
for further instructions.
If you would like to read through the archives of this or any other list,
please visit: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl
OK... that's enough of the tough stuff. If anyone has issues with the above
rules, please feel free to contact me via email and we can discuss it. If
there are large "uprisings" about some of the rules, we will vote on action
on the list, but it must first be discussed with the listowner off-list.
While we're on the subject of sponsors though, if any of you would like to
join in the support of our great host, Rootsweb, please become a sponsor or
member by visiting:
http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/members/
Again, thanks to all for making these lists what they are today! Now, back

Hi all,
I wanted to explain something to everyone so no one is confused. :)
Recently there is a new feature that has been added to Rootsweb that allows
the GenConnect boards for the surname to be linked to the mailing list.
What this means is that every time a post is made to one of the Calvert
GenConnect boards, it is then sent to the mailing list. You may have seen
some of the posts that begin with "Posted to: Calvert..." along with a link
to the actual post and a copy of the text. What might confuse some of you
is that if you reply to those messages, you will need to reply to either the
email address of the person in the post, or to the GenConnect boards
themselves (by following the link in the email and posting a reply), rather
than to the Calvert mailing list. If you send the reply to the Calvert
mailing list, it may or may not reach the poster, as they would have to be a
member of the mailing list to receive it. Many times, the posters to the
GenConnect boards ARE NOT members of the mailing list and would therefore
not receive your message. SO, if you want to reply to a message that starts
with "Posted to: Calvert...", either follow the link and reply on the web
board, or send it directly to the person. If you wish, you can also send it
to the mailing list, in case others on the list might be interested, but
sending it ONLY to the list may or may not work.
While on the subject of new features at Rootsweb.... I thought I mention a
semi-new feature that anyone that is a Rootsweb sponsor, or donor (see
http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html for more information)
can use. It is called the Personalized Mailing List (or PML) and is a
wonderful feature for those that feel overwhelmed by the amount of data
available. Fair warning, it is not for the net newbie, as you have to set
it up the way you want/need it to work, but once set, it is a wonderful
tool. Basically what it is is a program that will search ALL posts made to
ANY Rootsweb mailing list, GenConnect boards, and/or Rootsweb Surname List
for your specific search criteria and will then send you copies of those
posts. For example, I have mine set to search for any posts that are made
that contain the surname "Blankenagel" as it is one of my search names.
That way, if any post should come to any list or board with that surname, I
will get a copy of it. It really works well. It also works well for those
on very large, active lists. They can set the search criteria up so that it
will email them whenever a specific set of criteria is sent and then don't
have to worry about missing an important post in a large, active list.
Anyway, I wanted to let you all know about this feature and encourage
everyone to become a sponsor or donor to Rootsweb so that they might also
use it.
Thanks to all for your wonderful contributions to this list, and don't
forget to check out the surname web page and post your brick wall entries!

Hey folks,
Thought it might help to have a reminder that any of these messages that
come through to the list that say "Posted on: Calvert..." are from the
Reconnect boards, and your replies will not reach the authors unless sent
directly. If you send a message in reply to the group, and if the
person/people that posted the message isn't a member (which is frequently
the case), they won't get your message of reply. SO, that is to say that if
you are responding to a posting made to one of the Reconnect boards, you
either need to reply ON the Reconnect board ( by clicking on the link and
then choosing "reply") or you need to email the person directly in order to
ensure they receive your message. Not picking on you Vicki, just wanted to
let everyone know...

Jim, Our William and Elizabeth Nodding Calvert did not make it as far
as Carroll County. As is indicated in the bio of a James Calvert
in the text portion of the Carroll County Atlas, the O' Gorman
book and in the Nodding/Calvert Bible Records, William and
Elizabeth Nodding remained
behind with the main contingent of the Calverts in Cooper County and
are interred at Gooch's
Mill in the old Big Lick Cemetery altho there is no marker in
evidence for their graves. We
DAR types would have jumped on it years ago if the gravestones
could have been found. William Calvert is one of our biggies in the
Missouri DAR burials lists. i.e "Revolutionary War soldiers buried in
Missouri." Richard Westbrook and William Calvert, both buried in
Cooper County, are my ancestors on that list. If I remember
correctly my Martin Calvert and your Jabez Calvert are brothers
but I'll look it up (after I get awake) in the book. The
Boonville paper ran a great article by our kinsman a DAR
member Lena Hobrect in the 1930's... Laura Crane, Corresp secretary,
Genealogy Society Central MO.

Hello, Steven,
Interesting information. I am directly related to a Jabez Calvert, but he married a Malinda Barnes and was born about 1805. Do you have any information on who are the parents of the Jabez you
mention? I am also looking for the parents of a William Calvert who died in Carroll County, Missouri. he was married to Elizabeth Nodding. He was born about 1757 in Virginia. Any Information
on these Calverts?
Thanks,

Surname: Calvert, Radford, Creach, Bennett
-------------------------
We are still researching. I have not run across these names yet.
Ours are Edward,Patrick(Edwards son) his children: Sarah Elizabeth <(my
ggrandmother), Nancy,Mary J, Martha(Matte),Lucy A, John W,Ruth A could
be called Alice.
Also have a Bill who gave these names to us.2 of the above sisters married

A few weeks ago I mentioned that some relatives of mine sent me some records
they made of Calvert gravestones in the Big Creek Cemetery in Carroll
County, Missouri. I thought I would post these to the list in case anybody
might be interested.
The Big Creek Cemetery is located about 1 mile south and 3 miles west of
Bosworth, MO. To get there, head west from Bosworth on Ssr M (South St) to
the intersection with Ssr Uu and turn left (south). Follow the road as it
curves to the right (west) at the railroad tracks and then goes almost two
miles and turns left (south). At that intersection, instead of following
the main road to the left, go straight ahead on Cr 317 about 1/2 mile where
the road turns right (north). The cemetery is located at that turn, sitting
above Big Creek. You can get to the cemetery from Carrollton by turning
right (east) onto Ssr Uu from US hwy 65 going north from Carrollton, midway
through the slight jog to the right (east) about 3 miles north of town.
After about 8-9 miles later of turns on Ssr Uu you again reach the
intersection with Cr 317, this time from the other direction (south).
The cemetery is there because of the Big Creek Baptist Church that was
there. According to the 1881/2 history of Carroll County
(http://www.carolnet.com/cchs/publicat.htm), the church was organized June
22, 1844, with Noding Calvert and Jane Calvert among the original members.
The book "Missouri Genealogical Gleanings, 1840 & Beyond", by Sherida K.
Eddlemon, Heritage Books, 1995, volume 2, lists the church membership roster
for 1844-1872. There are many Calverts shown there.
In the records that follow, a '?' indicates dates that were too worn to
read. If you are interested in any of these graves, you might also want to
see Elizabeth Prather Ellsberry's transcription of this cemetery
(http://www.execpc.com/~pipesb/elsbery.htm), volume IV for Carroll County,
Missouri. I believe she did these in the 1960s, so you would have the
benefit of 30 less years of weather erosion in her book, as well as a second
source of information.

Received this from a cousin in Kentucky. I'll let y'all know when and if I
hear from this Calvert. Vicki K
Vicki, We had a James Calvert visit us the other day. He is part of the
Paducah Ky Calvert's. He lives in chicago & is staying with a brother in
Hopkins Co Ky. He really has a lot of info on the Calvert's. I gave him
your e-mail address & he will write you when he goes back to Chicago.
Marilyn
Thanks for your E-mail, Laura,
Hope someone can locate that Bible some day. It sure would be nice to track down William's parents. Some of
the researchers say his father and mother were Geroge and Ann, but there is no positive proff that I am aware
of. Others definitely say that Geroge and Ann are not William's parents. My grandmother said her mother
(Elizabeth Ruthwin Cheatham) told her that her mother (Malinda Jane Calvert) has said that her (Malinda's)
grandfather, William came from the Lord Baltimore line. I have no proof, but that is the family story.
Any clues to William's parents and information on Elizabeth Nodding's family will be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim at colmall(a)uswest.net

James, So nice hearing that you too are interested in the
Crupper/Calvert story. William and
Elizabeth (Nodding) are buried in Cooper County near the
Overton/Woolridge exit. of I-70. I think the
name of the cemetery was Big Lick. I went into DAR on William
Calvert. My gt grmother
was Julia Ann (Calvert) Faris of neighboring Howard County. I
discovered Cynthia Crupper (Calvert) [Hawkins] Durnill was married
first to a Hawkins then to Henderson Durnell/Durnill. Henderson
Durnill, who is on the 1850 census of Boone County, MO, as a widower,
served in the Union Army and they are both interred in a cemetery in
Carroll County. I forget which one at the moment. Cynthia is in
the O'Gorman book forget which page, which tells who her parents are.
We think CCHD is a grandaughter of Ann (Crupper) Calvert. The
secret to her grandparents,( and her middle name) should be in some
old Durnill or Calvert family Bible sold at some auction in
Carroll County!!

Karen, I was interested in the Calvert Barony descent because of your
mention of
Anne Crupper as a wife of George Calvert. One of his
grandchildren carried the
name of "Crupper" as a middle name in our line, .i.e. William and
Elizabeth Nodding
Calvert, and we are busy trying to figure how our William was
perhaps a child of George and Anne Crupper, William would have been born
shortly before her death.
