I have just recently discovered a CALVERT line in my family tree. I am hoping for any information that may be had regarding this branch of my line and their ancestors.
What I know is that a Sarah M CALVERT was wife of William Jefferson LOWRY b. ~1853 Hamilton Co., IL. I do not as yet have marriage or birth dates for Sarah. I know of two of their children Louella/Luella LOWRY b July 15, 1885 in Hamilton Co., IL and Ida LOWRY b. ~1884 presumably in Hamilton Co. as well. I know the LOWRY line into which she married had been stable in Hamilton and Jefferson Cos., IL since the 1830's.
Sarah's name comes from the marriage document of Louella LOWRY to Joseph Ezra Otis "Otto" PROWELL in Jefferson Co., IL in 1902, in which Sarah and William are listed as Louella's parents.
I do not yet have access to the 1880 Hamilton county census though that is one of my next goals, as I anticipate I may locate Sarah on it.
If anyone has any information or leads regarding my newly discovered CALVERT line I would greatly appreciate your assistance.
Thanks for your time,
Mike Connor

I just discovered my great grandmother was a Calvert.
I have very little to go on right now, she married
Henry Perry from Prince Edward Island and they lived
most of their lives (the part that I know about) in
Branford, CT. She evidently was proud to tell the
family that she was 'of the Baltimore Calverts'.

Ok, I want to start a Roll Call, but there ARE some guidelines that you MUST
follow in order to do this. I hope that everyone will want to/be able to
participate in this, and if you need help, please ask. :) Here are the
guidelines and following this post I will post my own as an example:
1. Only your CALVERT line can be included in this roll call. Please do not
include collateral lines as they clutter the list and are not of interest to
the "general" population of the list. This means anyone with the last name
of Calvert or who is married to a Calvert, but no others. You may list
parents of Calvert spouses if you like as thus: "John Calvert married Susie
Smith, daughter of John and Mary Smith on ..." but don't expand beyond that.
2. There is a 30K limit on each individual email, so if you have a LARGE
Barton line, you will need to post it in segments. If you are unsure how
big your email is, try sending it in and if it doesn't go through I will let
you know what size it is...
3. You MUST use an appropriate subject line. "Roll Call" will NOT be
appropriate, nor is leaving the subject line that of someone else. An
appropriate subject line will start with "RC:" (without the " marks) and
then will be followed by the last name, first name of the oldest ancestor,
followed by a > and the last name, first name of the most recent ancestor.
Following this should be the country/state abbreviations and then the date
range. For example, for my roll call entry I will use the following
subject:
RC: Calvert, John>Calvert, Harry Edmund; ENG>MD>VA>OH; pre 1525-present
4. There will be NO discussion on the list relating to whether or not roll
calls are appropriate, whether or not you like them, etc... If you have a
problem with the roll call, address me PERSONALLY at christib(a)satx.rr.com
Anyone violating this rule will be put on suspension. Sorry it has to be
this way, but I don't want the flaming on the list. If you don't like roll
calls, then you can delete any post that has "RC:" in the subject line.
5. Something like an "outline descendant tree" or a "genealogy report"
works best for a roll call. If you have FTM (Family Tree Maker) and need
help on creating and sending something like this, feel free to email me
PERSONALLY (christib(a)satx.rr.com) and I'll help you.
6. Have fun! This is meant to help everyone on the list get in touch with
others who may be researching similar lines. There are 202 people on this
list at present, so hopefully SOME of you will connect!
If you have any questions/comments/problems, please address them to me
PERSONALLY (christib(a)satx.rr.com) and not on the list.

Maria,
I too have been doing genealogy for about 20 years. However, most of my work
has been on my Gravitt line. I discovered my illustrious Quaker
Calvert/Hollingsworth/Heald/Harlan ancestry quite serendipitously by chatting
with an old friend.
it turned out that her first big romance (in Kansas many years ago) was with
a second cousin of my mother (what a small world this genealogy makes for).
Well, this man's wife does his genealogy and after contacting her she sent me
her research showing my own descent from these famous Quaker lines. My
mother had no idea of these lines and having Quaker heritage. Anyway,
subsequent research at Sutro Library showed just how important Valentine
Hollingsworth and his wife Ann Calvert were. I did not know of her
connection to the Lords Baltimore who founded Maryland (niece). I am now
very interested in the Crosland ancestry since it seems that I am descended
from this aristocratic line just as were the founders of Maryland (Alicia
Grace Crosland who married Leonard Calvert--their sons George and Leonard
were the founders of Maryland although I descend from their son John).
I would like also to meet with Calvert cousins, no matter how distant, and
exchange information.
Ruth

Hi James,
I am interested in your Belmont Co Ohio, Calverts. By the way, I just live
up the hill in Nevada City and fellow list member Maria Brower is one of my
very best friends.
I have very little information on the Calverts of Belmont Co that is proved.
I do know that my Esther Calvert married my James R McMannis 28 Dec 1826 in
Belmont Co and her parents John and Esther Jones Calvert are buried in the
Centerville Cemetery there. At this point I don't even have proof that she
is their daughter, but working with the early census, she fits. I have been
given other information which fits into where the Calverts came from. I
have worked the McMannis, McManus line forward, one back, and lots sideways.
I also have some names of siblings of Esther, again with no proof. I would
love to share my meager information with you. I know there are others on
the list that are searching the same, but most know less than I do.

Hello,
I live in Fresno too. My parents came from Oklahoma and arrived in the
Fresno area about the same time as you did 1938-40. I was born 1941 here in
Fresno, my grandfather name was Virgil Calvert and his father was Spencer
Calvert. I don't have any information other than that. Spencer and Virgile
are buried in Lenna Oklahoma.

Thank you Marie,
John White died in 1854 and is also buried at Burnt Factory UMC. When I was
working on this in the mid-80s I got quite frustrated because there were
several John Whites in Frederick County at the same time, including the
family od a prominent judge and I could never quite hook my John to any of
the families in the area. I'll be back into my notes after Christmas and
will let you know if I have anything else that might help us.

For what it's worth again:
O'Gorman has Obed Sr b.1719/20 as the son of George Calvert, b abt 1694
in Stafford Co, VA and wife Constant.
According to an article in The Maryland Historical Magazine, back in
September, 1931, the author John Bailey Calvert Nicklin has a George
Calvert b. c.1700 and wife Sytha Elizabeth Harrison, but no mention of
Obediah.
In comparing Nicklin's work with O'Gorman, I would tend to believe
O'Gorman as it appears Nicklin h as generations mixed.
I've only read as far as Obediah Calvert, Sr. in O'Gorman's so I can't
give any further information. She lists George Calvert, b.abt 1668 with
no wife and this may be where Elizabeth Harrison fits.
Each generation has many George's; for instance, John, b abt 1692. son
of George b abt 1668, has a son George, b abt 1715 who supposedly
married Anne Crupper; John's brother George, b abt 1694, also had a son
named George, b. abt 1721. At least that is how O'Gorman has them
arranged.
