Surname: Calmes, Calimese, Callomese, Calmeese, Calmese, Calomise, Calomeese,
Calomnese, McKinney, McIntyre, McIntire
-------------------------
If you are researching the CALMES line which came to be in Lee County,
KY, please contact me.
My 2nd gr-grandmother was Sarah Ann (aka Sally Ann) "Calmes" McKinney.
Sarah Ann "Calmes" was married to James B. McKinney on Dec. 18, 1848, Estill
County, KY.
Sarah Ann was born Dec. 16, 1833 near the area of Jackson, KY (which became
Breathitt Co., KY.) Sarah died April 4, 1923 in Evelyn, Lee, KY. She is
buried in Cane Spring Cemetery, Estill, KY.
Sarah Ann is said to have been a daughter of George W. Calmes(possibly
the son of the General Marquis Calmes from Woodford Co., KY) and Elizabeth(Esther?)
Caldwell(sp?).
Her sisters are said to have been Eveline(sp?) "Calmes" McIntyre and Manerva
Calmes. Her step-brother is said to have been George W. "G.W." Calmes who
was married to Louvina Sparks. All of whom lived in Lee Co., KY at some
point.
I have heard that the surname Calmes is pronounced Calimese in that area.
I have found it spelled many ways in various doucments: Callomese, Calmese,
Calomise, Calomeese, Calomnese, and many other variations.
Thanks,
Debbie
