Trying to find my great great great great grandmother and her mother
that came to Amercia via possibly the ship JOHN. They were from
France and Julia was about 12 yrs old. Her mother died while crossing
the ocean and was buried at sea. Julia arrived at what port I'm not
sure of, but married an Abraham Graingeen/Granger (SP??) and had 2
sons, Edward and Oliver. This all happened by about 1822 and
according to the 1850 census record had happened in Maryland or Maine.
Julia divorced Abraham in 1830 in St. Louis, MO (signing her name
Julia C.) and later married George Campbell and had 3-4 more children.
As to Julia's maiden name, it is a mear guess, but after marrying
George, their only son was named Peter CALMAS Campbell, and that
middle name has been passed down through the generations since then.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone that might have some input on
this subject. Thanks,
Carolyn
