Dear Calmes Researchers,
I recently received a microfilmed copy of General Marquis Calmes' obituary
which appeared on page 2 of the March 6, 1834 Lexington Observer & Reporter
newspaper.
It reads as follows:
"Another Revolutionary Hero gone! -- Died, at
his residence in Woodford County, on the 27th
ult. General MARQUIS CALMES in the 89th
year of his age. Gen. C. was a Captain in the
Revolutionary Army, and distinguished himself
by his bravery and exertion at the Battle of Mon-
mouth. He also served as a General in the
Northwestern Army, under General Harrison, in
the late war."
