Those are the children of Aramus Calmes and his second wife Rowena. Aramus lived on the
Tangipahoa River near wat is now Robert. When his estate was sold and divided at the
beginning of the 20th century, my grandmorther received $500, enough to but an 80 acre
farm outside of Hammond. I assume his other children by his first wife as wel as those you
name by his second wife all received equal amounts. His first wife was Mary Robertson who
died when her second child was a few months old. Aramus's oldest daughter was Eva
Calmes, married to Theodore Stevens. The second daughter was Minnie Calmes, married to
George Howard Roberts. When Mary died, Aeramus's sister Emma came to lok after the
children, and when he married Rowena I understand they lived for a while with Emma and her
husband, Jordan Bankston. I knew John and Ishmael, son's of Rowena, and heard of
"Newmie." Bertha, Isabel. Aramus's brother was Rene, a well as others, which
lessens credence that Tom's children all were n!
ames starting with A.Uncle Dallas was killed in Independence by Sicilians fron New
Orleans, which was the centerpiece of a major international affair in the 1920s.
