If Mourning Dove's last name was Calloway, I don't see how she could have been a
full Indian - half at the most.
The Callaways in Ashe Co. NC at the time of Solomon Baker's birth and marriage are
well documented and were of English descent.
If her name was Calloway/Callaway, she was most likely the grand daughter of Thomas who
died in Ashe Co. NC in 1800. Interestingly, he had a son Thomas m. to Jude (have seen her
name as Jude Moffet, Jude Farrar, and Jude Saunders Farrar). Thomas and Jude have two
unidentified daughter born at the right time to have been Mourning. They also had a son
named James Marshall Callaway.
I have seen the name Mourning and Mourning Dove used in several lines where there was no
Indian bood. Peter Avant (Solomon Baker's grandfather) had a daughter named
Mourning.
