From another list
I haven't seen this before so hopefully it will be helpful for anyone
trying to find unknown family members using only the free online index. You
need to have already found one of the parents in the Index. It also helps
if the family has a relatively uncommon surname.
1. From the person you already have make a note of the Census Place and the
id number (shown on the task bar when you hover the mouse over the icon in
the image column).
2. Select Advanced Person Search
3. Enter the following only:
Surname
Gender (e.g. if searching for the wife or daughter of the person
known enter Female)
Marital Condition (Married if searching for a spouse, otherwise
leave blank if searching for children
Relation to Head Of Family (Wife, Son Daughter or Head if
searching for Husband)
Place Keyword (I use the minimum necessary with wild card in case
of mis-spelling)
Limit Results To (Enter 30)
4. Search
5. Move the mouse over the icons in the Image column looking for an entry
with the same id number as the person you already have. Continue through
all the names in case there are more than one, which is quite possible with
children. If you find a number that is adjacent to the one you have then
note that entry also. If there are more than 30 entries continue to check
subsequent pages.
The entries you have noted with the same id numbers are on the same census
page as the person you have and are probably from the same family.
Occasionally a family entry may spill over onto another page hence the need
to look also for adjacent id numbers.
Repeat as necessary for Sons, Daughters etc.
Hope this helps, it's worked for me and helped me to discover some unknown
children and wives.
