Marilyn and all,
What exactly does this mean? Will we not have a vehicle to share Callison
ideas and questions? I've been working on my gggrandfather Hiram and have
some questions about DNA, and plan to do some more research. Help!

Thank you for your years of commitment to our mutual Callison family.
We
have learned a lot. Still some unanswered questions but that will always be
the case in genealogy. It has been a joy "meeting" everyone. Take care,
Marilyn

Subject: ([CALLISON])A Message from the List Admin
Hi everyone!
By now I think most of you have heard the sad news Rootsweb will be
disabling the Lists March 2, 2020. Here’s the original announcement.
“Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will
be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or
accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer
be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an
archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to
March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and
searchable on RootsWeb”
As I type this there are efforts under way to start up RW type lists in
other venues such as Group.io or googlegroups. If you wish to continue in
this type of format for exchanging genealogical data you might want to
check to see if there is a list mirroring this one. As your List Admin I
will not be pursuing this project. When March 2 rolls around I will pour
all of my energies into my Ancestry and Rootsweb message boards. The link
to the main page for that is below.
https://www.ancestry.com/boards/?o_iid=33216&o_lid=33216&o_sch=We...
Nearly every US county and surname has their own board so be sure to search
which ones are available to view and post to. All the message boards are
the same on both Ancestry and Rootsweb. Free to use so long as you log in
with your username and password. I would encourage you to continue our
community there, posting research data and queries for the next generations
of researchers.
The List Archive is not going away. It will remain on Rootsweb.
Everything that was ever posted since Day One back in the 1990s til now
will be available at no cost to researchers well into the future.
My final thoughts as we begin the Mailing Lists last hurrah, let’s not view
it as an ending. Let’s see it as the very beginning. It is ending for all
of us who did the work typing and researching and posting the information.
It is the beginning for those who come after us finding that elusive tidbit
of information that shatters that family brick wall. When that happens,
your labor of love will not have been in vain.
Stay tuned for my second message on how we can make the best of our last
days as a list.
I have been serving as an admin since 2004 or thereabouts so it’s been a
long and interesting virtual road. My role as list admin is coming to a
close, but I will still be around as a message board admin. These lists
have been a life changing experience for me. I’ve found and met many lost
cousins. For that, I am very grateful. In many ways you are all my
extended family.
Rick Berkheiser
Your Friendly Neighborhood List Admin til March 2nd
