Yes, The Y-DNA from one of his male descendants matches the other Callison males -- The
male of the species is the only one who carried the Y-Chromosome so definitely the

there was only one grandchild named in that will -- Isabella daughter of his son, John. My
speculation is that the maternal line was Baldwin. We do know that he was in the care of
Robert Callison before Hiram's marriage. Of course, the elder sons John and William
were in Greenbrier Co by that time. Take care, Marilyn
Marilyn,
does the DNA indicate Hiram couldn't have descended from one of James &
Isabella daughters?

Subject: ([CALLISON])Re: Hiram Callison
Joyce, Marilyn, & All,
I've been researching my GG Grandfather Hiram Callison for quite a while
(many of us have!). I went to Augusta County, VA, marriage records around
the time he married Jane Donaldson (1805) and learned that everywhere, when
he was a witness, he signed his name as Hiram Callison. Another person in
that county who also was a witness several times was a man named James
Brown. I am assuming he was a friend of Hiram's and that's why he named my
G Grandfather James Brown Callison.
For the actual record, 22 April 1805, the marriage bond listed Hiram
Callison and Robert Callison:
(Paragraph 1) Know all men by these presents, that we Hiram Callison and
Robt Callison are held and firmly bound unto his excellency John Page
esquire, Governor of Virginia, and his successors in this sum of one
hundred and fifty dollars for the use of the commonwealth to which payment
well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and
administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents sealed with
our seals and dated this 22nd day of April in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and five.
(Paragraph 2) The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas a
marriage is shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound Hiram
Baldwin Bachelor and Jane Donaldson, spinster, daughter & orphan of Robt
Donaldson deceased. If therefore there shall be no lawful cause to
obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void;
Otherwise, to remain in full force and virtue.
Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Charles B. Penn
Hiram Callison Seal
Robt Callison Seal
Then, this document, dated the same day:
I Robert Callison of the same county do swear that I verily believe that
Hiram Callison who is about to be married to Jane Donaldson, orphan of
Robert Donaldson deceased, is part the age of 21 years well recollecting of
seeing his name registered in a book of his fathers kept for that purpose
about 16 years ago, and there it appeared that he was about seven years of
age at that time, since which time he has been under my care, and further
from the size of the said Hiram about 16 years ago he must be past the age
of 21 years...
Signed: Robt Callison
I'm convinced, and the DNA indicates, that Hiram was a Callison, not a
Baldwin. I feel reasonably sure that the clerk made an error when he
listed Baldwin, since Baldwin is listed nowhere else in any signature I
could find.
I also learned that Hiram's daughter, Margaret Callison Morton, named a son
Hiram Callison Morton.
This is one tiny piece of the puzzle. Bill Frankum did an excellent job of
tracking Hiram to Madison County, KY, then on to Lafayette County, MO.
Does anyone have a clue as to who Hiram's father might be? Right now I'm
looking at Robert's older brothers (sons of James & Isabella). Marilyn,
does the DNA indicate Hiram couldn't have descended from one of James &
Isabella daughters?
My father was a direct male descendent: Elbert Callison, his father George
Callison, his father J(ames) B(rown) Callison, his father Hiram. I want to
do DNA tests, but could use some advice on how to do this.
Sorry this is so long. I'm not sure why this is such an obsession for me,
but it would be nice to know who my GGG Grandparents are, and where/when
Hiram was born and where/when he died.
