Marilyn, I think the letter for James Callison in PA may be him all right & that was
his port of entry. And the Sam could also be James as the lettering of S & J on all
the old documents look alike. (Jas was abbrev for James, as u know) And I think they would
travel to Virginia where the Scotch Irish were settling. Wish we could find better records
of his entry to see if he came with Isabella & also his sister Margaret!! Ginger

Just looking through some old notes: It is possibly that our James Callison was
in Pennsyvania as early as 1741 and to Augusta Co by 1742. In 1741, there was a
letter for James Callison left at the Post Office (listed in the PA. Gazette)
Did his Irish family write to him but he had already left for Virginia??? In
1742, there is a Sam. Calhison, listed on militia records for Augusta Co and I
am wondering if the original document has Jam. instead. Hard to read that old
writing sometimes. It is the same group of people listed in 1749 and James
Callison is listed. No surprize -- the personal property tax for Augusta from
1782 up to the time of James death (1789) only documents James and Robert
From tax records for William, I can only document 3 sons for William
-- Joseph,
James and Robert and family history of a known son, John -- probably the
same
one who was in Gallia Co., Ohio with him and died in the War of 1812. All
familiar CALLISON names except for Joseph -- possibly the father in law of
William.?
Rena, please refresh my memory of Susanna Callison who married a Flack -- as did
Absolom. In May1793 Greenbrier (John and William were both there), Susannah
Callison had an illigitimate child within the previous 6 months.?
A correction on a previous note: Land records of Greenbrier Co 1783, 1785, 1786
have John Callison with 250 acres instead of the 400 that I mentioned earlier
but sold only 200 acres.
The only one of the=2
0Callison trilogy (William, James and John) that William is missing is William
and I would love to tie him (William who married Chapman) into this group in
some manner. The younger William married in Greenbrier Co., VA while the older
William was in Ohio but promptly followed Joseph to Kentucky after his marriage.
I don't think that Absolom is a son of William but seems closely connected also
since it looks like Joseph followed him to Kentucky. Looks like Absolom went
there about 1798 or so.
Hmmmmm, what was Joseph doing when William was in Ohio. William is missing 1796
-1801 and I think that Joseph first showed up in Kentucky in 1801 so he must
have been with William where he was. Obviously NOT in Greenbrier Co. Virginia
(no tax records) but POSSIBLY in Ohio since no tax records were taken until 1801
when William and James show up. I checked Mason Co., KY and also Kanawha Co., VA
and not there either which leads me to the idea that Ohio is the best
possibility.
I see that Moses was in Ross Co before Alexander -- Moses married in Ohio in
1807 and Alexander did not go there until about 1810. This made me look at the
tax record again for John Sr. in Bath Co -- He had and extra male with him in
1805 and gone in 1806. Was this possibly Moses who then went to Ohio and if so,
WHY did he go to Ohio?
Also in Bath Co in 1803, (listed the same day as the Callisons) was Joseph
Boiler who married
Nancy CALLISON and went to the same county as Moses
I need to find out when he left Bath Co. Was Moses in Virginia and followed a
brother in law and sister to Ohio? And then Alexander followed a few years
later. JUST SPECULATION
History of Pottawatamie Co., IA says
"?Joseph BOILER, son of the above and grandfather of our subject, was born in
Virginia, married Miss Nancy COLLISON, and reared a family of thirteen children,
seven boys and six girls, who all lived to years of maturity. Mr. BOILER moved
to Pike County, Ohio, about 1800, one of the pioneers of that county, and lived
there until his death.?
Joseph Boiler and Moses were in the same company in the War of 1812
If anyone has any ideas
, discussion, disagreements, confirmations etc etc etc.
--- just jump right in.
