Thanks John, William only had one extra tithable with him from 1794-1796 when we lose him
for 5 years. Assuming this is Joseph, his known son, this titheable should have been born
1775-1778 which fits right in with Joseph BUT how about the James that is found with
William in Gallia Co in 1801 or so.
I am thinking possibly that the James who married Isabel Jones in Gallia Co may possibly
have been born about 1780/1781 instead of 1775 since he does not seem to be listed with
William in Virginia but has his own listing (21 years old) in 1801 time period with
William in Ohio. Cant find my notes to confirm the year that he had his own listing in
Ohio but know that it was somewhere in this time period. This date still fits in well with
his marriage date of 1806.
Moses was not born until 1786 so would not show up on any of these tithable records
In 1787 John Sr. has 3 males (John Sr., ? James who died 1827 and John Jr.)
In 1788 John Sr, has 4 males (John Sr., ? James who died 1827 and John Jr.-- and one other
unknown -- maybe Alexander)
In 1789 John Sr. has only himself and there is a new James and also John Jr who got
married this year
In 1790 John Sr. has 2 males (himself and ? Alexander)
In 1791 John Sr. has 2 males (himself and ? Alexander)
In 1793 John Sr. has only himself
In 1794 John Sr. has only himself and William now has an extra male (Joseph)
In 1795 John Sr. has only himself and William still with=2
0an extra male
In 1796 John Sr. has only himself and William still with an extra male
In 1797 John Sr. has only himself, William has left the area and Absolom and Alexander
show up with their own listing -- they are not found again in tax records until 1799
Absolom in KY and Alexander 1802 in Bath Co., VA on the same day as John Jr. and James
Morrison (married to Elizabeth CALLISON). John Sr. joins Alexander and John Jr in Bath Co
in 1803 and the three are consistently listed on the same day through 1807. There was no
VA tax in 1808 and in 1809, John Sr. is no longer listed and by 1810 - both Alexander and
John Jr. have gone to Ohio. The only Callisons left in Bath Co are descendants of the
thrice married James Callison
One thing that I find interesting is that in 1805, John Sr. had one extra tithable for
that year only ( a male born 1784 - 1789).
Another thing of interest to me is that assuming that Moses was with William in Ohio as a
teenager and Alexander was in Virginia -- it's interesting that they ended up in the
same county at the same time -- even buying land together-- (I think this is right).
OK my brain is tired. I feel fairly confident that Alexander is a son of John Sr based on
these tax records and the fact that they were sureties for each other in various court
documents. Sure wish I could get the Alexander descendant to do DNA test but he is REALLY
Hesitant. Remember Alexander and John Jr. both used the name
Elizabeth <smile> Also gut feeling is that Elizabeth Callison Morrison and James
who died in 1827 were his children. Still not 100% confident about Moses but I am probably
in the minority there. Take care all, Marilyn
Joseph 1776
