Thanks Rena, When was Absolom born? Trying to make a time line here. Hmmmmmm, I know Moses
had a Matilda -- any other Matilda's out there. The GILLESPIE has GOT to be a clue.
??? wife of John Sr -- maybe Elizabeth Gillespie??? Just thinking outloud <smile> I
am going to leave Hiram out of the equation at this point -- since the others were all in
Greenbrier Co unless his birth was at a time before John and William wernt to Greenbrier.
Can we place the John G. in Alabama in Virginia at any time. Also with Absolom -- the
William who married Marian Chapman had a son, Absolom and a few unidentified males.
So in the first 3 generations
Gillespie used by Hiram, John G., Absolom, Elizabeth
Hiram used by ? and Moses
Absolom used by ?, Alexander, Absolom, Elizabeth, John Jr. line
Alexander used by ? and Elizabeth
Elizabeth used by ?, Alexander and John Jr.
Matilda used by Absolom and Moses
Moses used by William Sr. (presumed) and John Jr. line
Remember whoever gets Elizabeth gets James who died unmarried in 1827. He was born before
1775. Also remember that John Sr. had two extra tithable males with him in 1787 (John Jr
was one --- ? was the other) born 1766 - 1771. You would certainly think that John Sr.
would have a James for his father since he had an Isabel for his mother. I think that
Elizabeth and James were the only ones left in Greenbrier area of our unknowns after 1809.
No, this is not right because=2
0Isaac Callison/Collison remained in the area. Elizabeth had married and remained there
and I have no clue why James stayed. He left his plantation in his will but I can find no
place that he bought a plantation. Land records that early are sketchy and one early tax
record looked like John Sr. had 400 acres but only sold 200 acres. When he moved to Bath
Co with John Jr, did he give some acreage to James? IF James did not name any heirs in his
will of 1827 except Elizabeth because the others had all left the state then it seems
reasonable to think that Isaac was NOT related to him.
Look at your first generation of names and see if you can identify any reason for the
names. Remember James, Robert, William, and John are typical Callison names (at least for
James and Isabella) The Thrice married James. As for John Jr. he has sons John, James,
William, Arthur and Charles. Arthur was his father in law and I SUSPECT that Charles may
be a McClure name rather than a Callison. Just an exercise in futility probably
<smile> Take care. Marilyn

Mine never changes, unfortunately:
Absalom Callison married Anne Flack:
(1) One of their sons was *Gillespy* Callison, but he only lived to be about
12.
(2) They only had two sons who left children. They were John Callison who
had a son named *Absalom Callison*; and Robert F. Callison who had a
son *Absalom
Gillespie* Callison.
(3) They had a daughter, Sally Ann, who married a McCutcheon. She named a
child "*Absalom*".
(4) John Callison in #2 above had a son, William, who named one son *
Absalom* and one Jesse G., where the G. could have been for *Gillespie*.
(5) Robert F. Callison, in #2 above, had a daughter, Matilda Jane Callison,
who married a Cunningham and named a son "Samuel *Gillespie*" Cunningham.
(6) Robert F. Callison, in #2 above, had a son, *Absalom Gillespie*, who had
a son,* Absalom* McCutcheon.
(7) *Absalom Gillespie* Callison in #6 above had a daughter, Melvina Matilda
Callison, who named her son, "John *Gillespie*" Steele.
(8) John *Gillespie* Steele in #7 above had a son, James *Gillespie* Steele
(b. 1916)
Interestingly, I took my mom (who is 92) to a birthday for HER aunt, who
turned 95 in May. I asked then about the Gillespie name and although
everyone seemed to be aware that it was a family name, no one seemed to know
why. Confused enough?

and I am back to the GILLESPIE question. UGH. So please keep me on track as
to what lines used this name. I know that Hiram used JOHN GILLESPIE CALLISON
and that there was a John GILLESPIE CALLISON in Blount Co., AL and that
Elizabeth and Absolom used GILLESPIE also fo
r a middle name.
John Gillespie Callison in Alabama was closely connected with brother's
James and Samuel -- ?? another brother. When was John born.
Of those 4 -- Elizabeth used Alexander and Absolom
Alexander CALLISON used the name Absolom
Moses CALLISON used the name Absolom
John Jr. used the name Elizabeth as did Alexander ( Have I mentioned that
my gut feeling is that John Sr. was married to an Elizabeth and that
Elizabeth Callison Morrison is his daughter. John Jr.'s first four children
were Elizabeth, John, ARthur and Martha and his father was John and his
inlaws were Arthur and Martha.)
What year was Hiram born -- Where were John and William at the time? He
could possibly be son of Robert or James Jr. but how did he come up with
Gillespie. Maybe son of James Jr. and named his son for Anne Gillespie
Callison, wife of James Jr.
What years were William's two known sons born -- or at least Joseph - the
oldest. How does that compare with Elizabeth's birth? Y'all just jump in and
bail me out here. Take care. Marilyn
