in the 1920 cenus for st. lawernce county, new york
I know NOTHING about the KELLISON family in New York who must be a different
branch than the ones in Virginia-- or then again, maybe not. Anyway, I checked
a couple of years of census records and found that in 1850 there were two
counties in NY where the Kellisons lived -- St. Lawrence Co and Steuben Co.
Nothing anywhere for a Jefferson County but those two seem like the place that you
need to do your research.
The earliest KELLISON in NY census records was a Robert KELLISON in 1830
Steuben Co. Steuben Co is right on the PA border and there were Kellisons in PA
very early -- 1790, I think and St. Lawrence is right on the Canadian border so
may have come into NY via Canada. Just some thoughts.
John and Richard Kellison listed 1790 in Northumberland Co., PA which is not
too far removed from Philadelphia where they probably entered this country. I
don't have a subscription to immigration records on ancestry so don't know
when these men might have come here or even if they connect to you in any way.
1800 census show George and Daniel KELLISON in Washington Co., PA which is
near the OH/WV borders. These are the only KELLISON" listed in any census for
1800. Washington Co had a census taken in 1790 so apparently these people moved
into the area between 1790-1800
1810 shows R Kellison and W. Kellison in Frederick Co., MD (on the PA border)
and Daniel in Allegheny Co., PA (right next to Washington Co.). Frederick Co.
MD had census records for 1790 and 1800 so apparently, these men came to this
county between 1800 and 1810
1820 George is still in Washington Co., PA, William is still in Frederick MD,
and there is now a Robert in Lycoming Co., PA (taken from Northumberland and
near the NY border
1830 There is a Robert in Steuben NY who is possibly the same one who was in
Lycoming, PA. All the other KELLISONS are KELLISONS and CALLISONS from
Virginia
There is also a Henry KILSON in Jefferson Co., NY in 1830 which is the
closest that I can find to KELLISON in that county
Wish I could help you more but here is a road map for you to start your
research from. Just start with what you know in today's time and keep working your
way backwards. One day all of the pieces will fit.
Have you checked all of the messages on
www.genforum.com (type in Kellison
for surname search) and then NY to search that forum. Interestingly, the
northern NY branch seems to follow a KALLISON spelling. Woe is me.
Anyway, good luck. Who knows maybe we are all connected at some point in
time. Take care. Marilyn
