Marilyn,
I have been looking at all of the records that I could find on
GenealogyLibrary.com and I
found a couple of them that I wonder about.
I guess I get the two Anthonys mixed up. This is probably the Quaker in Bath County. I
found one court record that says Anthony Callison of Bath County vs James Callison, his
father, of Tennessee. Anthony had a brother Isaac. O.S.55; N.S. 19
I looked at all kinds of Scotch Irish records, but I did not find one Callison/Collison
mentioned. Naturally, there are thousand of records that are not on line. However, I did
find the following:
Collison, Stratford, St. Mary County, Suffolk.
Noah Sandford of Bury St. Edmonds, County Suffolk. Dated 18 Nov., 1664, proven 2 Jan.,
1664/65 by Elizabeth Sanford. Named - wife- Elizabeth "Sutton" - actually her
maiden name - executrix, Aunt, Mary Collison, nephews (or cousins?) James and Samuel
Collison, and "brother", John Sutton.
I know this is about a hundred years too early, but is there a chance that the
Collison/Callisons did not come from Ireland but from England? I found some other
Collison/Callison records in England that are very early. I know that you said Evelyn
Witeck found the Quaker James in Ireland but could find no trace of the other James and
Isabella.
The earliest record that I can find in America, and I know others have found it years
earlier, is James in Augusta County in 1749. Has anyone ever seen the actual deed?
