I just got to thinking about John Callison, son of James and Isabella while I
was working on the land info for Danny. We know that he married before going
to Greenbrier Co., VA and that John and Isabella were probably born in Augusta
Co. So, is it possible that he married one of the families who had adjoining
land to the Callison's in Augusta Co. So then decided to see about the
neighborhood relationship between his other children and their spouses. Take care
all, Marilyn
Jane married Richard Morris 1761 Augusta Co., VA. Any Morris researchers out
there to let us know where the Morris land was located in Augusta
Mark, when did Isabella and George McNutt marry -- and where?? George did not
seem to be anywhere in the locality of the Callison family. Any ideas where
their paths may have crossed.
Agnes (Nancy) Callison married Thomas Blair in Greenbrier Co., VA 1795. This
one has always been a puzzle to me. What was she doing in Greenbrier -- how
did she get there-- who did she go with. Her borthers had been there for 20
years. Now the other question -- did they have divorces back in that time period
-- is there ANY CHANCE of a snowball in you know where-- that this Agnes might
be the wife of William. I just can't puzzle out her presence in Greenbrier
In reviewing all of these children, I also noted that James Callison did not
give the married names for any of his daughters -- many of the wills from that
time period did use married names. Sure would have saved lots of work, huh.
James Callison Jr. married Anne Gillespie 1794 Knox Co., TN. By then, James's
sister and brother in law, Isabel and George McNutt were living in Knox Co.
but I don't know of any connection between the McNutts and Gillespies for them
to meet. There is always that unknown factor that some Gillespies are related
due to the use of that name as a middle name in a few lines.
Margaret Callison and Thomas Mitchell 1786 Augusta Co., VA-- where did the
Mitchells live in Augusta?
Robert Callison and Elizabeth Mitchell (sister to Thomas) 1793 Augusta Co.
VA. Families obviously close
William Callison -- we know nothing of marriage other than in 1786 he was
married to Agnes/Nancy -- was Agnes a Blair.
Mary Callison was the second wife of the other James Callison -- don't know
when or where they married -- supposed to be related but need DNA for proof of
this. I don't remember that James Callison being in Augusta Co. -- only
Greenbrier Co. Did they marry in Greenbrier. Did Mary go with Agnes to Greenbrier?
Eloner Callison -- I don't think we ever found any info that she married
Joseph Blair as one researcher suggested.
