So back to the land records, we know that James Callison had land by the
following people
William McNabb, Samuel Downey, Adam Thompson, John Campbell,Alexander
McFeeter,
William Ledgerwood John Linn, Bingham, Wm. Hamilton, Wm. Elliott BUT what
land parcel did he actually live on? We know that he left his mansion house and
1/3 of his land to Isabella when he died so we can eliminate some of the
possibilites of where he resided

So this whole exercise was to determine that James and Isabel LIVED by
William Ledgerwood. Fun, Huh.
So is there ANY possibility that John Callison SR and/or William may have
married one of the daughters of their parent's contemporaries. I have made the
known daughters names in BOLD.
I am just going through the 3 books of Chalkey to try to find references to
these men. By the way, it is online and Free at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~chalkley
if anyone wants to jump in and look up references for these men.
There are 3 volumes. Click on the one that you want, on the next page go to
the bottom of the page to index and then on the next page click on the alphabet
letter for the name you are looking for. I started with William Ledgerwood
since we know they lived near each other. I have not crossed checked the names
-- only William Ledgerwood at this time.
You have the list for 1742 if wants to tackle any of these men. Some are
duplicated in 1755
The next list of names were probably all in the same general area of residenc
e

Patrick Cooks (deceased), for David Richey; Wm. Brown (said he was
going to leave his land and didn't care about it).
William Ledgerwood got his survey in 1738. Gencircles has William and Agness
MITCHELL born Ulster, Ireland about 1700 died 1789 Augusta Co., VA buried
North Mountain Burying Ground. One daughter not accounted for by marriage --
Elinor. Agness reported in Bible record as only child of James Mitchell and his
first wife. Agness Mitchell-Ledgerwood who proved her "oath of importation" o n
2-28-1739, in Orange Co., VA - along with her family (husband: William
LEDGERWOOD; children: Martha, Jane, Elenor, William & James). James Michell and his
second wife were parents to James Mitchell who married Elizabeth Beard
Note: James Mitchell and Elizabeth Beard had two children who married two
children of James and Isabel Callison
2d April, 1768. William Ledgerwood and Agness ( ) to Robert Braford, £103.15,
in Beverley Manor, part of tract on which
William now lives, containing 200 acres. Teste: James Mitchell, James
Moffet, Samuel Braford, Fras. McDonald.
NOTE: two children of James Mitchell married two children of James Callison.
Note above that James Mitchell was related to Agness Mitchell Ledgerwood
Here is someone that William Ledgerwood was connected with who had three
?eligible? daughters Hmmmmmm, NOTE: ALEXANDER.
2d March, 1753. ALEXANDER Campbell's will--To son (youngest)
Alexander, plantation testator lives on; to wife, maintenance; to daughter
Florence; to daughter Mary; to daughter Jane. Executors, son William,
and William Ledgerwood. Teste: Pat. Cunningham, Robt. Campbell,
Walter Davis. Proved, 16th August, 1758, by Cunningham and Davis.
Executors qualified with Hugh Young, Pat. Campbell.
Looks like Alexander, David and Robert Campbell were brothers and living by
William Ledgerwood and James Moffett soooooo also near James Callison
Page 268.--20th May, 1752. Alexander Campbell, farmer, to William
Campbell, 200 acres. In Beverley Manor, at his father's and Wm. Ledgerwood's
corner; his father's and his brother David's corner; his brother
Robert's corner; James Moffet's line. Teste: Arthur Hamilton, Samuel
Henderson.
21st January, 1761. Alexander McFeeters' will--Executors,
wife and John Buchanan; son, Alexander; daughters, Janet, Ann, Martha,
Rebecka; grandson, Alex. McFeeters; daughter, Elizabeth Speers. Teste:
Wm. McFeeters, Elijah McClenachan, Alex. McFeeters. Proved, 19th
May, 1761, by Wm. McFeeters and Elijah McClenachan. Executors qualify,
with Wm. Ledgerwood, Wm. Ray (Reah). (Martha's mark .)
and how about this one
19th July, 1761. Francis Donnally's will--Wife, Sarah (and
the child she now bears); six sons, Samuel, Henry, Francis, William, John,
James; daughter, Mary. Executors, wife, Wm. Ledgerwood, James Callison.
Teste: John Berryhill, David Scott, Alex. McFeeters, Archibald
Armstrong. Proved. 18th August, 1761, by McFeeters and Armstrong.
Executors qualify, with Thomas Meek and Hugh Martin. Sarah's mark
( ). Callison's mark ( ). Meek's mark ( ). Ledgerwood's mark ( ).
OK so we now know that two of William Ledgerwood's daughters were NOT married
to any Callison men.
15th June, 1782. William ( ) Ledgerwood to his daughters
Martha Patterson and Jean Moffett, gift of negroes. Teste: James and
Elizabeth Moffett.
So from all of this we only know that William Ledgerwood has a daughter that
we don't know who she married, and that his wife was ultimately connected with
the Callison family via the Mitchells so without researching the Mitchell
family, it is possible to think that the two Callison children met the Mitchell
children through the Ledgerwoods. According to his Indian War record he was 60
years old in 1761 -- are there any of these records for James Callison. Also,
I wonder why James Callison did not take the oath of importation in Orange
Co. like this family did -- as did my German Thomas line who came directly to
Virginia. My German lines took the "oath of allegiance" in Pennsylvania. Anyone
got any ideas?/ Guess if you came from Ireland -- a British Isle-- you did not
have to swear allegiance to the King. So that just leaves with the question
about the oath of importation that I am not familiar with.
