Good morning all, as you know, I am trying to recreate the neighbors that
James and Isabel had in Augusta Co. and find ANY possibilites for the wife of
John Callison. Since William was younger than John, he may not have married until
Greenbrier Co -- or Botetourt before it was Greenbrier. Anyway, I took the
1742 Militia list -- that I am sure now that Sam Calhison is actually James
Callison because in comparing the list with the 1755 list -- many names are
abbreviated incorrectly and also spelled incorrectly but the same people are on both
lists.
So back to 1742 -- one of the men on the list was James Clark who died in
1771 or so.
Here is his will -- as sent from someone on the Augusta Co mail list
James Clark will 1774. wife Elizabeth's will 1781
children:
Jean m Wm Elliot
Eliz m Wm Reah
Sarah m Arch Elliot. Went to Anton Co. NC
John
James
William d pr 1766 wife Margaret m 2nd John Smith
Ann Dunlap
Alex
Sam
Rbt
Margaret m Samuel Kincaid .They migrated to Greenbrier Co.
So you see Jean Clark and William Elliott. Well, they had a son James Elliott
who married Ann Armstrong d/o Archibald, who went to Greenbrier Co also
James Elliott will Greenbrier Co., VA 3-26-1814 probate 6-27-1815 Wife Ann
sons, WILLIAM, Archibald, Robert, THOMAS, John and James. Daughters Jenny
Carreck, ANN KINCAID. Exec. wife Ann, son James. Witness John Gabert, W.H.
Cavendish, George Kincaid.
William ELLIOTT married Isabel MORRIS, d/o Richard Morris and Jane CALLISON.
Jane was d/o James and Isabel
Thomas ELLIOTT married Martha CALLISON, d/o John Jr and granddaughter of
James and Isabel
Ann KINCAID -- after Robert Kincaid died, she married William BUCKLEY -- the
widower of Elizabeth CALLISON, d/o John Jr.
The whole point of this story is that James Clark and James Callison served
in the militia together in 1742 Augusta Co., VA and their descendants served in
the War of 1812 together in Clark Co., OH --- so it is reasonable to assume
that the families remained friends well over 70 years.
Take care all, Marilyn
