I can't remember off the top of my head, when Isaac Callison (father of
Millicent) was in Orange County. After reading this blurb from the Augusta Co mail
list, I am wondering if he was actually in the part of Orange Co that became
Augusta Co therefor a closer connection to James Callison and Margaret Callison
McCutcheon.
Formed from Orange County, Augusta County was created in 1738 by an Act of
the General Assembly which provided that its territory should remain a part
of Orange County until there were sufficient inhabitants to support a local
government. The first Court was held in 1745."
So looks like the part that became Augusta stayed under Orange Co name until
1745. And--- I find this in my notes on James Callison
In 1736, Governor Gooch gave a grant to William Beverley for the MANOR OF
BEVERLY, lying in Orange County.
Soooooooooo, was Isaac Callison possibly the first Callison in the same area
that James Callison and Margaret Callison McCutcheon settled in?? We know that
Millicent was born in 1758 and that she and her husband were among the first
settlers of Rich Creek, Giles Co., Va.(formed 1806)
We also know that the son of Millicent Callison Shumate bought land in
Jackson Co., Ohio from the son in law of John and Jane McClure Callison (grandson of
James and Isabel)
We know that the grandson of Millicent married the granddaughter of John and
Jane McClure Callison.
So my speculation is that Isaac Callison, father of Millicent, may have been
of the same age group as James who married Isabella along with the same age
group as Margaret Callison McCutcheon. Sooooooooooo ???? brother to James. James
who came later and married Mary Callison had a son named Isaac and Absolom,
son of ?, had a daughter named Millicent.
And someone had a son Isaac who married Cynthia Robinson in Bath Co., Va.
Just trying to organize my thoughts on this early family. My John and Jane
Mcclure Callison had sons
Arthur (for McClure)
John
James
William
Charles (for McClure
had grandsons,
Isaac (2), (Callison name)
Moses, (Callison name)
Absolom, (Callison name)
Charles (from maternal line),
Daniel ( from maternal line),
George (no idea where it fits into the grandscheme,
Jacob (from the maternal line),
Robert (Callison line),
Samuel ( Callison name)
Anthony (from Maternal line)
Peter (I'll have to investigate his maternal line)
and then each family had at least one and many times all three of the trilogy
of William, James and John
Interestingly, as far as I can tell, (I don't have many of the middle
names), there are NO Gillespies which is used so much in the early generations.
I suspect that John, son of James and Isabella had at least James, John,
Elizabeth and Isabell as children. I also suspect that he was married to an
Elizabeth but may never be able to prove this.
So check out the children in your line starting with how the grandchildren of
James and Isabel or the younger James and see if you can see any sort of
pattern.
James and Isabell had James, John, William and Robert
The younger James had Anthony ( a Callison name for him), Isaac, James,
Samuel, John, Jesse and Elisha. I am not familier with all the maternal lines to
figure out if Jesse and Elisha may have evolved from that side of the family
Take care all. Enough rambling
