Hi gang, We just got back in town after a weeks visit with my 91 year old
mom. We went to a timeshare in Georgia -- almost in the middle of nowhere-- and
did nothing but read, nap, play canasta and dominoes, walk and visit. The guys
played golf -- actually, Ray played golf and my brother in law, rode in the
cart. He just had knee replacement 4 weeks ago. They also fished but just off
the bank. No aol access numbers so withdrawal from the internet but I made use
of it anyway. My mom brought her recipe box and we went over old recipes --
back to my great grandmother-- to make sure that all the family had copies of
these treasures. I especially loved the ones in my grandmother's own writing.
Anyway before I left, I had ordered some War of 1812 records from the National
Archives online. This is a great service -- they don't charge you if they don't
find any records. I don't know how many I can afford to request since I think
they are about $14 each but I'll do what I can. I had 3 envelopes when I got
home so I don't know if they could not find the other four or if they are still
coming. They really do not give much information EXCEPT for one that was a
GOLD MINE.
A little history.
William Callison, son of James and Isabella, had sons Joseph and Robert and a
descendant of Joseph has a rifle from his Uncle John Callison from the War of
1812 so William is known to have had 3 sons. In 1806 Gallia Co., Ohio
William, Robert and John Callison were all in there along with James Callison--
assumed son of William. There is a Nancy Callison there also.
My gut feeling is that John Callison, son of William, is the same John
Callison who married Elizabeth Cutlip in 1791 Greenbrier Co., Va and they went to
Gallia Co. Ohio with William and the Cutlip family.BUT what happened to John and
Elizabeth???
Well the answer might be in these War of 1812 records
There is a Robert and John Callison who were appointed to service on the same
day August 9, 1812 Capt Isaac Butler's Company of Volunteer, 2nd
Regiment/Saffords.
Aug, Sept, Oct and Nov 1812 was a service of 3 months 23 day with $6.66 pay
per month. They were due $14.92 and received $10. Both of these records are
identicle with the same copyist and all information identical. They served from
Dec 1- Dec 31 for their $6.66.Muster roll was taken February 12 for Dec 1812
and Feb. 1813 at camp near the Rapids of the Miami of the Lake -- known as
company of Gallia Volunteer Riflemen lately commanded by Capt Isaac Butler, now by
Lt. John Rader.
The following notation is where they are no longer alike
JOHN CALLISON DIED JANUARY 25TH, 1813
Robert Callison transferred to Captain Woods Spy company January 20, 1813.
Have to do another request to get more information for him in this company
So these people are all the same John and Robert with their names spelled in
a variety of ways.

The Thomas Collison is also listed as Cullison and in a different company
(Captain Nehemiah Gregory) of Saffords Regiment so I am going to discound him at
this time. He is not listed as CALLISON on any pay record where John and
Robert are listed as CALLISON five out of six times and COLLISON on one time.
NOW for the speculation -- Keep in mind that the Cutlip family also went to
Pike Co., Ohio and that we cannot identify these Collison's. I THINK that John
and Elizabeth Cutlip Callison may have been the parents of these children and
that Elizabeth went to Pike Co after John died.
1819 Elizabeth Kellison/Collison married Thomas Downing Pike Co., Ohio
1820 Thomas Downing had extra female age 18-26 with him and also female over
age 45. NOTE: Downing researchers cannot identify these females
1823 Joseph Downing married Margaret COLLISON
1831 Elizabeth Downing married Samuel COLLISON. This couple appear to be the
same couple who are found in 1850 Indiana. He was born 1801 Virginia and she
was born 1806 Ohio
Keep in mind that Elizabeth Cutlip Callison was the daughter of MARGARET
Cutlip -- as far as I remember
So cogitate on all of this and let me know what you think. Take Care. Marilyn
