I got up early this AM, worked on Elizabeth Callison for awhile and then
promptly went back to bed. I discovered this about myself and genealogy. I KNOW
that some things will never be proven in any record of any type in any
courthouse. I know there are many genealogy researchers who only work in facts set in
concrete. I have decided that I work under the premise
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck then it
must be a duck
so:
If Moses was married in Ohio and there in the 1820 census before moving to
Vermilion Illinois in 1830 and he had 7 males and 3 females in the household of
the age to be children then chances are PRETTY GOOD that these are his
children.
2 males age 10-15 ,1 male age 15-20 and one female age 10-15 PROBABLY born in
Ohio since he was there in 1820.
Moses was the only Callison/Collison in Vermilion Co at this time
IF Moses is next found in 1840 Vermilion Co., Illinois with a William
Callison, age 20-30 and a Hiram Callison ag 20-30 -- all three living next to each
other and now Moses only with 5 males of the age to be children Then it is
reasonbly safe to assume that the two missing males would be William and Hiram. On
the other side of them is MATILDA Bonnett who possibly connects to the
Callison family since that name is used throughout this branch.
The other two Callison/Collison in Vermillion Co., Illinois at this time are
Isaac, and Absolom. Absolom is known to be a son of Alexander from Pike Co.,
Ohio also. I'll have to work on which Isaac this might be -- age 30-40
1840 William and his wife both ate 20-30 had son age 5-10 and daughter age
under 5
Between 1840 and 1850 Moses moved to Dallas Co.,Missouri. in 1850 He and
Catherine are listed with Caleb, John, Ezekial and Nancy. This accounts for 3 more
of the 7 males listed in 1830 and also Hiram and William. Their daughter
MATILDA was living next door to them as was Hiram and his family. They are on page
669
On page 62, we have
Elizabeth Callison, with Colbert age 15 (b 1835) Illinois and Catherine age
10 (1840) Born Illinois. Elizabeth was born In Ohio. Now remember that William
Callison in 1840, had a son, born (1830-1835) and a daughter born
(1835-1840). Elizabeth also had David age 9 born Illinois, MATILDA age 6, born Missouri
with the rest of the children Loretta, Mary and Rebecca. I found a mortality
schedule on this census while in Salt Lake City stating that William Callison
died in the year 1850 with an age about 10 years younger than he should have
been. Everyone who trusts the census info explicitly belongs to the "carved in
stone" type of research. Remember IF it walks like a duck etc etc etc SO
Elizabeth is the widow of William.
James Callison has one familiy between his family and Elizabeth's family with
surname of Davis. The Callison's are surrounded by Davis families. I don't
know of any connection. James, age 28, states that he was born in Kentucky but I
think later census records don't support this. I THINK it more likely that he
is another son of Moses. The 1860 census shows James living in Webster Co.,
Mo and born in Indiana. Moses and Catherine are in Marshfield Twp of the same
county. C. B. Callison, age 25, born Illinois is living in the CAPLE
household."The duck" says this is Colbert since he married a CAPLE. Absolom and
Hiram,
the sons of Moses are in same county, different twp. These family groups are
the only Callison (and soundex equivalent) in this county.
By 1870, James now states that he was born in Ohio about 1823 which is a
match for son of Moses. His wife was born in Illinois and his children in
Missouri - earliest born 1847
Another son, Absolom, is in Green County -- so now we have 7 SUSPECTED sons
of Moses and 2 daughters-- out of the original 10
By 1870 Cobbert Callison was living in Izard County, Arkansas. Also in that
county was William Callison ( I think later shown to be David William), brother
to Colbert.
So that is the way the duck quacks. Have fun deciphering all of this. Take
care. Marilyn
