Ok the first 12 markers on the known line from William, son of James and
Isabella are back and no surprize, the 12 match the rest of us (except Ezekial
line) on all 12.
So on the first 12 markers, it looks as though the MRCA (most recent common
ancestor) for our Callison line had the same 12 markers that everyone has and
that the line from Ezekial (son of Moses) had one mutation through the years.
Another line from Moses had the same as everyone else so presumably Moses
did also. Of course 90 % of Western Europe started with these same 12 numbers (
thousands of years ago before there were surnames) so we match a lot of
people with different surnames. The 25 marker test separates us from the pack and
we have no matches except our own little group.
The question is "who is the most recent common ancestor". We know that
Anthony (of Abigail) is NOT the father of James (of Isabella) but we don't know if
they were brothers and the MRCA was their father. If brothers, Anthony may
have been the older of the two. Anthony named his only son (that we know of)
James but James (of Isabella) named his oldest son (that we can determine)
John. Sometimes the naming pattern helps but without all the facts -- just can't
rely on it. So did Anthony and James share a father or was it a
grandfather???
Now back to the DNA results
As I mentioned in an earlier email, Ezekial line had another mutation at #
464 that he shared with Anthony line. The majority have 15 16 16 18 and those
two have 15 15 16 18. Here is a blurb about this marker
Marker DYS464 appears to be a rapidly changing Y chromosome marker and is a
multi-copy marker. DYS464 occurs at least four times near the center of the
Y-chromosome. The first four copies are called: DYS464a, DYS464b, DYS464c,
DYS464d. .
When testing a random sample of 679 males for DYS464, scientists have found
that the result 15,15,17,17 occurred in 10.6% of those tested, 15,15,16,17
occurred in 7.5% of the samples, and all the other results occurred less than
5% of the time, with over half these results only occurring once. This
illustrates that Marker DYS464 is valuable in differentiating unrelated persons or
splits in branches that have failed to show variation with other markers in
the panel. In fact DYS 464 alone has a greater ability to split then the first
12 markers combined.
Another reference just to show how changes in this marker are minute --
talking about Marker 464
For markers that fall into this category, despite the fact that two people
could be separated by 2 (or 3) mutations (number differences), the scientific
assumption is that the change took place in a single generation (between a
father and a son) and therefore it is treated as a single step, despite the
fact that more than one ‘point’ separates two samples.
Back to me now -- One of the important factors in # 464 is that the same
numbers are included so we all have 15/16/18
We don't have the test completed for known line from William other than 12
markers but wanted to show you the advantage of multiple people being tested.
Here is what familytreedna has about 25 marker tests with 1 marker difference
FTDNA’s interpretation of genetic distance on 25 markers: We can't factor in
line from William yet
Distance Relatedness Explanation
0 Related Your perfect 25/25 match means you share a common male ancestor
with a person who shares your surname (or variant). These two facts
demonstrate your relatedness.
1 Related You share the same surname (or a variant) with another male and
you mismatch by only one 'point' on only one marker. For most closely related
and same surnamed individuals, the mismatch markers are usually either DYS
439 or DYS 385 A, 385 B,389-1 and 389-2 from our first panel of 12 markers,
and on the following from the second panel: DYS #'s 458 459 a 459b 449, 464
a-d, which have shown themselves to move most rapidly. The probability of a
close relationship is very high.
Just an illustration as to why it is so helpful to have more participants.
Line from Ezekial has two mismatches with the rest of us on 25 markers.
First glance would say that he MIGHT not be related (even though we know he is)
However when he is compared with line from Anthony (Abigail) there is only 1
mismatch between them so now he is back in the ball game. So far, the two
lines who are 100% matches on 37 markers are line from John and line from
Hiram!!!
Another item of interest -- I know I have talked about this before but it is
keeping me occupied until we get known line from William back <smile>
Both lines from Moses have reversed results from the rest of us on two
markers. We have 17/16 and they have 16/17. IF line from William happens to come
up to match Moses -- have we found a clue for the male lines from William. If
line from William matches the rest of us then it is possible that MOSES was
where the mutation occurred and would be of benefit to find other lines from
Moses to verify this. It is also possible that the two numbers were 17 - 17
originally and William had one change to 16 and John had one change to 16.
Again, WE NEED JOSEPH"S LINE BACK to see what is happening.
Anthony line has one difference from all of us. He has a 39 on CDYb and the
rest of us have 38 so it is POSSIBLE that the MRCA started with 39 but it
mutated to 38 in James DNA. Again need more tests and results. Then we might
begin to see a pattern
Possibilites
Marker 392 with a 12 result would be line of Ezekial
Marker CDYb with a 39 result would be line of Anthony
Again just have to wait but definitely making progress.
Line of Hiram and line of John Jr. may need additional tests to further
define their differences since they both match 37/37. Did they share a father???
It would be helpful to find lines from James Jr and Robert to test. Is there
ANYONE on this list from either of them -- even if we have no proof --just
suspect-- from James Jr.
So that brings you up to date. More as the results come in. Take care.
