There seems to be some discussion on the Poynter website as to the accuracy
of this info that we have on our web page. Can ANYONE help with a source or
more info as to where this originated -- specifically the marriage to POYNTER.
307. John6 Callison (Moses5, William4, James3, <Unknown>2, <Unknown>1) was
born 1832 in Vermillion Co., IL, and died 1890. He married (1) Eliza Poynter.
He married (2) Nancy J. Williams 1855 in MO, daughter of Luke Williams and
Elizabeth Rutledge.
Children of John Callison and Nancy Williams are:
+ 849 i. Mary A.7 Callison, born Sep 1854 in TN.
850 ii. Martha C. Callison, born Abt. 1857 in MO.
+ 851 iii. James Callison, born 1860 in MO
Patsy received this info from Poynter website
I have the marriage of Eliza Poynter and John Callison. Eliza
> Poynter was born 18 Nov 1846 in KY, married 5 Nov 1867 (most
likely in
> the Dallas Co. MO area) and died 29 August 1891, according to Poynter
> family records. Her middle initial was "C".
> Eliza appears on the 1860 Census in Dallas Co. with her father William
> Poynter. His wife was Milly Law who died between 1854 and 1860. In the
> 1870 Census she appears with her husband John Callison born 1842 in TN
> and with one son, Everett, 1/12.
> The 1880 Census shows John, age 38 with wife Louisa, 33. I am
> convinced that this is Eliza (same age and place of birth as on 1870
> Census) who died the next year according to other descendants of this
> line. They have an addition to this family which is Etty ??? age 2. In
> any case there is an 8 year break between children and no signs of any
> children from a first marriage. They could of course be with
> grandparents or other family members.
> On the surface, this wouldn't appear to be the same John Callison who
> was father of James. Note that this John was not born in IL (according
> to two census records) and it would appear that this John was born c.
> 1842 vs. 1832 for the John you mention.
> I know nothing further about this John Callison who was married to
> Eliza Poynter. No references were sent to me regarding his parents or
> background. I have not had time to search Tennessee records for him.
PS We
had a GREAT time at the beach. Marilyn
