Good morning all, Since I have no access to land records for Greenbrier to
try to tie land bought in Greenbrier to land sold in Greenbrier, I thought I
would see if anyone has the will of either of the above mentioned men -- sons
of the thrice married James Callison. These might mention land in them so that
I could do at least a couple of parcels.
Also does anyone have the will of the trice married James in Grainger Co. TN
to see if any land is mentioned
In 1811, his widow of Grainger Co, TN appears to sell all of her right of
dower to James Callison of Bath Co., VA. The wording does not describe the land
in the Commonwealth of Virginia <sigh> but says
all the lands in the commonwealth of Virginia to which James Callison,
deceased, her late husband had any claim or title ---- estimated to be 290 acres
north of Holsten River.
This land north of the Holsten River was bought by James Callison in 1796 in
Grainger Co., TN from Christian Rhodes. -- 300 acres
Note also that Christian Rhodes sold land at the same time to Jonathan
Callison -- 150 acres on the north side of Holsten River
Anyone got any ideas what happened to this land -- might help explain the
relationship between James and Jonathan -- possibly father/son
The only other deeds I found of interest were in
1819 Elizabeth Callison sold 170 acres on the North side of the Holsten
River to Samuel Fox
And on the same date, Elizabeth sold 100 acres on the north side of the
Holsten to John Clark
This reference needs checking out -- Grainger Co
1796 Peter Callison (check for correct first name) bought from Christian
Rhodes Book A page 13 (either I could not find the reference or I did not write
it down.) James and John purchases were on pages 17 and 18
So the possibility exists that the 170 acres that Elizabeth sold in 1819 was
the original purchase by Jonathan
and the purchase by (Peter) may be the other 100 acres that Elizabeth sold.
Early TN tax list - Grainger Co
Jonathan Sr. 1799
Jonathan - 1799
James -- 1804 -- 2 tithables
James 1805
1800 James Callisson Jr married Elizabeth Young. John Callison Sr. Bondsman
Jonathan Callison not named in the will of James Callison 1808 in Grainger
Co., TN
Could he possibly have been the brother of James rather than the son? Why
would Elizabeth get his land (if she did) is not a son. Would you have a son put
up bond for a marriage? The other John, son of James and Isabella, is
consistently listed in Virginia so definitely appears to be two different Johns.
Could James possibly be Jonathan James with a son named Jonathan and a son
named James. Where would Jonathan fit into the picture -- oldest son???
Anyone got any ideas. Take care. Marilyn
