So, would you say we are closest to Moses? Guess I need to see about a 67 test.
Joyce
Joyce, Moses is actually a problem child also. No proof of parentage -- family history has
son of William
but we don't know that for sure. He first shows up in Ross/Pike Co area of Ohio and is
closely connected with
Alexander -- another guy with no proof of parents. We at least know that Alexander was in
Bath Co. VA at the same
time as John Jr AND Absolom. Moses married in Pike Co., Oh in 1807 but we don't know
when he went
there. John Sr. disappears from the tax records about this time. Absolom went to KY about
1800 or so
and William Sr. went to Washington/Gallia Co. Ohio. Moses was born 1786 and would have
been tithable 1802
if listed at age 16 as some states did. I think that was the last year for William having
titheables
listed with him in Ohio (have to pull out my files) but he did not have an extra one with
him. I'll have
to check for John in Virginia to see if he had an extra one. Can't put my hands on all
those tax records right
now HELP. If the titheables did not count until age 21, Moses would have been age 21 in
1807--
the year of his marriage. William was in Gallia Co -- no titheables enumerated and John
was in Virginia.
Interesting, Moses named child
ren, Absolom, Hiram, the trilogy of James, John and William, along with some
Biblical names BUT no Alexander whose family he was closely connected to in Ohio and
Illinois. Family history
also has that he had a son, Benjamin, but no evidence of that at this point.
John Jr. married in 1789 and should have been close to the first grandson married so
theoretically, Moses
should be a first generation descendant of John or William IF he descends from them.
Robert and James Jr. did
not married until 1793-1794 so he could not be child of theirs. My two unknowns are the
elusive Isaac who I
can find no info on -- did he have more children -- did he leave a will disproving that
idea? and my other
unknown is Jonathan in Grainger Co., TN. Either he was NOT a son of James Sr because not
named in his will OR
left no children to be named in James will if he was deceased. Was there another family
member named Jonathan
came to this country directly to Grainger Co., TN ( I can find no mention of him in
Virginia). How do we know
what happened to Jonathan Callison in Grainger Co. TN (that he died in 1802). If this is
fact, then Joyce's
James and Samuel could not be connected to him.
It is expected that William and John would have children that we cannot prove because we
only know of two for
each of them and circumstantial for a couple more. Families were large at that time. We
know that William
had Joseph and Robert and that John had
John Jr and Isabel. Actually for him, I am pretty comfortable with
the James who died in 1827 and his sister, Elizabeth also. So who goes where? and are
there still some that
we don't even know the names -- possibly deceased early leaving children like
Joyce's James and Samuel.It is
bedtime and I have gotten way off track. See Joyce, don't get me started.
<smile> Take care. Marilyn
