William Callison had an extra male age 16-21 listed with him in 1794-1796 Greenbrier Co.,
VA and is next listed in Washington Co., OH 1801 with James Callison over age 21.
In 1797 Both Alexander and Absolom show up for the first time in Greenbrier Co., VA
We have James born 1775 - would be of age at 1791 but not sure when they changed from age
21 to age 16-21
Joseph born 1776 -would be tithealbe 1792 -- he is First found 1801 in KY paying tax on
the same day as Absolom
Moses born 1786 -- would not be tithable until 1802 - not old enough to show up in Ohio
tax record with William
Robert born 1787 - would not be tithable until 1808 - however he has his own listing in
Gallia Co., OH with William in 1806 and in 1807 apparently moved to KY where Joseph was
already living
The accuracy of these birthdates is Loosely interpreted without actual birthrecords and
only word of mouth to verify.
We have Absolom born 1777 - would first be titheable 1793 -- Absolom could NOT be son of
William IF the Bible records recording a brother named Robert because William has another
KNOWN son, named Robert, who was not the same one
John Callison had only one KNOWN son and one suspected son, John JR and James who died in
1828
John had two males age 16-21 listed with him in 1787 (born 1766- 1771). John Jr was born
in 1769 and James who died in 1828 was over age 46 in 1820 so assumed to be the older male
listed here.
In 1788, John had 3 extra males and in 1789 back to only himself. John Jr. married this
year and has his own listing. In 1790, John has one extra male again. There were no new
males added to tax records in these years other than John Jr and James Jr in 1790. By 1790
the thrice married James had gone to Grainger Co. so this James could be son of John OR
son of the thrice married James. James Jr. did pay tax on land though and I found NO land
sales for any James Callison about this time period.
In 1791 John still had an extra male with him but that is the last year.
NOTE: 1794 Nancy Callison involved in a court case in Greenbrier Co., VA and in 1795,
Nancy Callison married Thomas Blair. Need to find Nancy in a census to check for age --
John and William both in Greenbrier -- was she a sister and living with one of them OR a
daughter?
In 1797 both Alexander and Absolom show up in tax records although Alexander has been
listed in court records previous to this in 1792 and 1794. Not sure when he was born but
married 1805 ( It think). Neither one of them had any horses --neither did John Sr. who
must be getting old
John has no more titheables listed with him -- Alexander is not listed for a couple of
years and then in 1803, John Sr and Alexander both show up in Bath Co. where John Jr is
already living.
No tax record in 1808 Virginia and in 1809 John Sr is no longer listed and Al
exander and John Jr are both last listed this year. The proximity of John Sr., John Jr and
Alexander and their departure from Virginia apparently after the death of John Sr. leads
one to believe that Alexander is the son of John Sr.
Going to try to find an age for Nancy Callison Blair. Take care. Marilyn
PS Joyce, I have a note Kentucky and Tennesee records
1799 tax paid Grainger Co., TN 1799, Jonathan Collison and also Jonathan Collison SR
1833 Harrison Co., KY will abstarct
Casander Collison witnessed will of Marxhall Makesom Book C page 41
More on Jonathan -- Dec 9, 1796 Recorded Feb 14,1797 Grainger Co., TN between Christian
Rhodes of Knox Co and Joanthan Collison of Grainger for 22 shillings 150 acres on North
side of Holston River (my note: pretty cheap sale)
Sept 12, 1796 Christian Rhodes to James Collison for 50 Pounds 300 acres on North side of
Holston River
So what happened to the land that Jonathan bought?? I did not find any info on this.
Elizabeth (widow of thrice married James) sold his land in Virginia to James Jr in 1811
and then it looks like she paid James Jr. 50 cents for 290 acres north side of HOlston
River. She appears to have sold 170 acres in two parcels in 1819
OK so add Jonathan's land to our puzzle page. Anyone keeping track?
Take care. Marilyn
