Great info John, Thanks. So was Nancy Callison Newenham a daughter of William or a
daughter of John and Elizabeth Cutlip Callison and if the latter -- would that make John
who married Elizabeth the same John as the son of William. AND if that is the case -- why
can't we find them? Something for me to look back at AGAIN. We have suspected that
the two families were related but certainly nice to have some documentation of the
closeness of the relationship. Thanks again. Marilyn

Absolom settled in Hancock Co. Ill, in 1840, having come over from Ohio.
There he met and married Mary Jane Pennock in 1842.
Gilmore and family arrived in Hancock co, in 1833. He and brother
Josiah started a church there and rode circuit around the county.
It would be strange if the two familys did not know about each
other.
John details the deaths of two people who he names in his diary. One
was Josophine Bristow who was related by way of his Uncle Robert. Absolom
was the other. THey were related to him so he names them.
They had to be first cousins by just following the family down from William
Sr.
There must have been communication as William was with Joseph
in Kentucky in 1815 and so knew Gilmore20and the rest of the family. He came
all the way from Ohio to get married at the house of his son Joseph.
Finally, Absoloms widow, remarried and her descendents in their records
state that she was once married to a cousin of the Callison family in Lane, Co
Oregon, where Gilmore settled.

Thanks John for reminding all of us about that Callison connection also --
Newenham's had Absolom's also. So descendant of Nancy Callison Newenham
traveled on the Oregon Trail from Illinois with descendant of William Callison,
Sr.. The Newenham's were Ohio to Illinois and that particular William Sr branch
was never in Ohio (that we know of) so obviously had communication between
the families. Do we know that the two Oregon Trail people were first cousins? I
did not realize that. Take care all, Marilyn

I have Shadrack marring Nancy in 1808 in Gallia Co, Ohio. her son went
with Gilmore, who was in Illinois, in 1852 on Oregon Trail
Gilmore-Joseph-William. They were first cousins.

Hi Susanne, Always nice to hear from you. Your Benjamin is one that I am
familiar with -- j
ust not sure where his name comes from. The Isabella that
we
need a last name for is the wife of James of Augusta Co., VA. Probably will
never find this info. Yes, James and Isabel did have a daughter named Nancy
but
I am not sure if she is the same one who married Thomas Blair -- I need
some
help on her-- because her mom and younger brothers were living in Augusta
Co
the year she was married but she married in
Greenbrier Co. Actually was in
Greenbrier a year before her marriage according to a court case. -- Could be
daughter of William or John, sons of James and Isabel. Actually, William's
first wife was Agnes and we know that his second wife was a widow -- Frances
Hurt. There is discussion also about Nancy who married Shadrack Newenham --
Cutlip researchers say that she is the illigitimate daughter of John
Callison
and Elizabeth Cutlip. She also could be the daughter of William and A!
gnes since we know William was in Gallia Co., OH when she married BUT
apparently the Cutlips were also in the area. The same minister married her
as
the
one who married James Callison. However -- how did Shadrack meet Nancy
Callison IF she was with William in 1801 Ohio. Shadrack was in Bath Co., VA
1801,
1802, 1803 along with John Callison and George Cutlip (father of Elizabeth
Cutlip Callison). There is another Nancy who enters the picture also -- 0ANancy
married David Boiler in Bath Co about 1805-- William Sr. not in the area--
whose husband ended up witnessing the will of George Cutlip in Pike Co., OH
--
So
we have three (4 actually if we count the one who married 1803 in TN)
Nancys
-- those who married Blair (1795), Newenham (1806), Boiler (1805) and the
one in TN (1803). Anyone got any ideas? Take care. Marilyn

Marilyn, In answer to a couple of your questions--My first Benjamin shows
up 1833 (or 35), born in LapPorte Co., IN, son of William and Lorahama
(Crow) Callison. As far as I can tell he lived only in Indiana and Iowa.
Is the Isabella you're looking for the Isabella Jones that married James
Callison in 1806 in Gallia Co., OH? If it is, that's all I have on her.
In my records (and I don't know if this is absolutely right or not) James &
Isabel had a daughter Agnes, (who was referred to as Nancy), but she was
married in 1795 to Thomas Blair in Greenbrier, VA. Moving on--James &
Isabel's son William (first wife UNK and 2nd Agnes Beard?), had a daughter,
Nancy, who married Shadrack Newman in 1806 in Ohio.
I don't know if these are the people you're looking for, but this is
what I
have for records of my direct line. I haven't dealt too much in any of the
side branches.
Susanne

Subject: [CALLISON] How many with Benjamins
OK how many lines have Benjamin in them -- in the earlier
generations
like
up to 1850 or so John JR has NONE
Who was the Benjamin listed in Augusta Co with Robert and Hiram? What
happened to him? How many puzzle pieces does it take to mak
e some one lose
their minds?
What was Isabella last name?
Who was the wife of John Sr -- my guess Elizabeth someone
Who was Martha McCorkle Calhisone
What happened to John and Elizabeth Cutlip Callison -- who was her
illigitimate child
Who is the father of Hiram, Absolom, Alexander, Jonathan etc
Who was Nancy who married 1803 TN -- ?? daughter of James and Isabel
Was Daniel a Callison or a Kellison?
What was the connection between James who died in 1828 Greenbrier and the
Coulter and Brown family - named in his will. Was he a son of John Sr
and
his mother part of this family? Where did he get his plantation that
he
left to Margaret Coulter?
I could go on and20on but am going to stop and get started packing for our
trip. Everyone feel free to jump right in. <smile> Take care.
