Marilyn,
this definitely lets William out as the father of John Gillespie Callison,
born ca 1797, in Ky. Any ideas who else the father might be?
Well, we have looked at everyone that I know was in Kentucky in that time
period and bombed out. This would probably have to be someone born pre 1777.
so
1. Either someone who has been flying under the radar that we have no clue
that he exists
2. the Kentucky is in error
3. Or someone that we can't account for in that time period
a. William Sr disappears from Virginia in 1797. He had a son John who fought
in the War of 1812
b. Possibly son of William is another John who married Elizabeth Cutlip in
1791 and never found again although I SUSPECT that he was in Ohio in 1806.
These could be two different John's. The one who was in Ohio in 1806 and the one
who married Elizabeth Cutlip in 1791.
We know that William returned to Ky about 1815. He had one extra titheable
in 1816 who is assumed to be his son Robert who married in 1817 and got his own
listing so even though William is missing for 8 years (1797-1805) and
POSSIBLY was in Ky in this time period, it looks as though John Gillespie Callison
is NOT one of his children.
I know nothing about John Callison who married Elizabeth Cutlip in 1791.
Still don't know if the connecting factor is GILLESPIE. We have your John
along with Absolom, Hiram and Elizabeth Callison Morrison who all used that
name. The Gillespie enters the picture before Kentucky though because Elizabeth
Callison Morrison NEVER went to Kentucky -- she remained in Virginia.
Elizabeth and Absolom were born in the 70's, Hiram in the 80's and your John near
the
end of the 90's so he may be a different generation. Did John Sr. have an
unknown son (actually that is a good possibility based on tax records). We only
know of John Jr and tentatively James who died in 1827 whose sister was
Elizabeth Callison Morrison. However in 1788, John had 3 males over the age of
16 in the household.
There appears to be a Callison living in Ky as early as 1797 when on March
21 of that year, Susannah Callison married William Flack. She is thought to be
a sister of Absolom -- or at least they both married FLACKs. Absolom paid
tax in Greenbrier Va that year but that was the only year. He is next found
1799/1800 KY.
I hope you can make sense out of this rambling. I sure cannot. <smile> Take
care. Marilyn
