Marilyn,
I believe that the Sargeant was the mother of Alexander Callison. She died and he
remarried, from what I remember, but she could have been the second wife. He married both
times in Fayette County, though. Somewhere I have found info where all three of the
Callisons, John G., James, and Samuel, fought in some battle for the Texas for the
Republic of Texas.
James was on the ship from Texas to New Orleans with Samuel in April of 1835, and then
he just kind of disappears. I am almost sure he came to Texas with Samuel in the Fall of
1834 when Samuel came to Nacagodoces with all of the Box family, as he was here in April
when they sailed to New Orleans. Samuel and John G. both got a first class head right for
being in Texas early, but James did not. He shows up in Fayette County about 1840 to 1842.
Where was he the rest of the time? I need to go back and look at him again. John G. fought
in the Texas army in 1838 with some Reneau and Box men, so I think that ties him to Samuel
pretty close, as the Box men were Samuel's in-laws.
I am sure the Lord would not smile on me purchasing a Ouija board to ask for a few
answers, but it almost gets tempting at times. However, I am not sure that even the
spirits know the answer to the Callison riddle, or the Box.
