Of the early Callisons in Greenbrier and Bath Co. VA areas, we know that we
have William and John as the two oldest ones but since no will have been found
for either of them, we don't know who their children were. William and John
were the sons of James and Isabel. SOOOOOOO as far as names that we have more
than one of - so can start thinking that one belongs to each of them-- we
have
Two James Callisons
One married 1806 in Gallia Co where William was living at the time
and one died unmarried in Greenbrier Co in 1827 being born about 1766 or so
and naming a sister, ELIZABETH -- This is the only Elizabeth floating around
Two John Callisons
One was in Gallia in 1806 where William was living and
one was with John Sr in Bath Co, VA. -- listed as John Jr.
WE actually have 3 Nancy Callisons -- 4 if you count the one who married
early in KY
Nancy Callison married Shadrack Newenham 1806 in Gallia Co., OH where
William was living. Shadrack had lived in Bath Co previous to that time where John
Callison was living. Some researchers say that she is the illigitimate
daughter of Elizabeth Cutlip Callison who we believe was in Gallia at that time
Nancy Callison married Joseph Boiler 1804 Greenbrier Co.
Nancy Callison married Thomas Blair 1795 Greenbrier Co. Other researchers
have attached her as a daughter of James and Isabella but the Greenbrier Co. is
confusing to me since her mother was in Augusta Co.
According to the personal tax records, before we lost William for those 10
years, it looks as though he had ONE son who became tithable age (16-21 -- born
1773- 1778) in 1794 and was still in the household in 1796. This should be
his known son, Robert. The down side of this is that the earlier Mentioned
James is thought to have been born in 1775 but William only has ONE tithable
listed.
In 1797 William is gone and Absolom and Alexander make their first
appearance. John Sr. has had no extras since 1791. Wherever William has gone -- he
should have additional tithables in the missing 10 years -- Known son Robert,
possibly Moses, William. Another fly in the ointment is that there is no
indication that he had a son, John Callison in the household pre 1791 and no
documentation of John after his marriage. STRANGE
So my brain is tired and I can't compute any more of this tonight. Going to
get a good book and hit the hay. Hopefully, it will all become clear on the
day that we make it into heaven and meet all these "problems". Oh John and
William -- why didn't you leave a will. I don't think that either one of them had
any land at the time of their deaths so I guess they just did not have
anything left to will to anyone.
Take care. Marilyn
