Subject: [CALLISON] Alexander and other odds and ends
Hi all, I have been writing to a gentleman who descends from
Alexander and
he has agreed to be DNA tested. He has his kit and will send it back next
week.
Is this FANTASTIC or what? Chipping away at my wish list <smile>
Just thought I would send you my note to him about thoughts on Alexander.
Guess I mentioned that many of the early researchers thought that
Alexander
and my John were siblings. Guess we are about to find out 100% if you
descend from James and Isabel even if we can't name your father as William
or John
-- My guess -- John.
Do you belong to the Callison mail list on rootsweb. I send lots of info
via
that site. About all the Callison lines.
I only found Alexander on one tax record in Greenbrier Co., Virginia June
28, 1797. He and an Absolom both showed up that year in Greenbrier.
Absolom went
to Lincoln Co.,, KY where he is found in 1798/1799 but Alexander is not
found in again until Bath Co where he shows up in 1802 through 1809. This
is
apparently when he went to Ohio. Now where was he between 1797 and 1802.
IF he
was born about 1775 -- he would have his own tax listing about 1796 which
certainly works out well.
Another thing of interest -- John Sr had an extra 16-21 year old living
with
him in 1790 and 1791 who could be Alexander and if so where was he from
1792-1796 as a 17 - 20 year old
And one other thing on Alexander -. He was living in Bath Co. In 1804 when
he married - along with my line -- John Jr and his father, John Sr along
with
Daniel CALLISON, father in law of Alexander and James from a different
branch
of the same tree. Only Callisons in Bath Co.,
___________
Just odds and ends from here on out
My John Callison left Virginia about the same time as Alexander and went
to
Clark Co., OH. There were some Callison cousins (Jane Callison Morris)
line
already in Clark Co and John got land by that family. I don't know why
Alexander and Moses went to Pike Co. OH. Some of Alexander wife's family
(Callison/Kellison) was there but not sure which one was first.
Actually John went to Champaigh Co., OH which became Clark Co in 1818 and
Alexander is assumed to have gone to Ross Co which became Pike Co in 1815.
So in
the interest of accuracy I guess I need to check Ross Co from 1810 and
then
Pike after 1815
I double checked my notes on Gallia Co and found 1806 John Callison paid
bounty for panther scalp and William Callison paid tax on land in 15 -5-
34
which was Green Twp. There was no other listing for Callison in Gallia
(except
for William) and Robert is mentioned in 1812.
Note: Robert first shows up in Lincoln Co, KY in 1808 which is PERFECT
for a
birthyear of 1787. Titheables had to have their own listing at age 21 even
if not living independantly BUT he does not appear to be listed with his
brother Joseph previous to this date. He is listed in Ky through 1810,
then 1812 in
Ohio and the next time that he seems to be enumerated is 1816 and 1817 in
Adair Co, Ky where William is listed with an extra male. Robert married
in 1817
and has his own listing in 1819. 1818 was too faded to read.
Another name duplication -- speculation. We would think it likely that
both
John and William would have a son named James -- after their father and a
daughter named Isabel after their mother. We know that John did in fact
have a
daughter Isabel and I suspect that an Isabel Jardin/Jourdin/Jorden whose
husband died in Gallia Co in 1813 with William as the executor. No clue
if this is
Isabel Callison or where she and James Jardin married or if she was the
reason that William went to Gallia in the first place
In 1822 Alexander paid tax on his land in Pike Co and in 1823, his heirs
paid the tax.
1827 was the last year that Moses paid tax on his land in Pike Co and 1828
was the last year that Absolom (son of Alexander) paid tax. They can
probably
both be found in Vermillion Co., IL tax records.
Of interest -- this was the last year that Nancy Callison Newenham was
found
in Pike Co. Her family went to Brown Co., IL in the western part of the
state. At that time it was Schuyler County. Some of Joseph's family (son
of
William) was in that area also but I don't know who was there first.
Families
obviously knew each other because some members for both families were on
the same
wagon train leaving Illinois for Oregon
If anyone can make sense out of all of this. Be sure and let me know if
you
do.
We have discussed relationship with John, Alexander, Moses, Nancy Callison
Newenham and then the connection with Joseph's family and looked for clues
as
to where William Sr might be. Wherever he was, Robert was apparently with
him
until he shows up in Lincoln Co. at the age of 21
Enough is enough. Take care. Marilyn
