A Downing Family researcher has confirmed that Samual Callison in 1850
Kosciusko Co., IN is indeed the same family as Samuel Collison who married
Elizabeth Downing in 1831 Pike Co., OH.
So -- just to keep my theory intact until I can confirm via DNA testing --
Theory -- This Samuel is a son of Elizabeth Cutlip and John Callison --
along with a sisters, Elizabeth and Margaret Callison Downing who both died prior
to 1850
So Thomas Downing and Elizabeth Collison got married in 1819 and in the 1820
census, there is a male age 18-26, TWO females age 18-26 and a female age
over 45.
My theory continues - the older female is the widow, Elizabeth Cutlip
Callison, with one daughter married to Thomas Downing and one daughter living with
them. The Downing researchers cannot account for these two extra females in
their family.
In 1830 Thomas Downing has a 20-30 (1800 - 1810) year old male in the
household and he himself is age 30-40. There are a couple of young females and
then a female age 30-40 (b. 1790 - 1800) John Callison and Elizabeth Cutlip
married 1791. According to the 1850 census Samual was born in 1802. So continuing
the theory, Elizabeth Cutlip Callison apparently is no longer in the
household (?deceased), the other female (Margaret Collison) has married Joseph
Downing and Samuel is living with his sister and brother in law. He married in
1831.
Joseph Downing -- oldest female in the household was born 1800-1810 -- so it
appears that Elizabeth was the oldest of these Callison/Collison children.
She died October 1830 Pike Co., OH
Downing site has that Thomas and Elizabeth Downing were siblings so
reasonable to assume that Samuel and Elizabeth Collison were siblings. Elizabeth
Downing Callison died 1867 Kosciusko Co., IN
Also in Pike Co., OH in 1820 was Moses CULLISON/Callison age 26-45 and
Alexander -- over age 45
Joseph and Nancy Callison Boiler/Bailes were in Pike Co., OH. Nancy and
Joseph married in February 1804 Greenbrier Co., VA. Also William Callison
married Marian Chapman August 1804 Greenbrier. The only ones who married about that
time. You just get the feeling that William Sr. MUST BE IN THE AREA but
WHERE IS HE.
Anyway -- just wanted to confirm that Samuel in Ohio and Samuel in IN were
the same person. Now if I could just find a male descendant. Take care. Marilyn
