It's the only explanation that I have SO FAR for John in Gallia Co in 1806 at the
same time as William and then John killed in 1813 (War of 1812), Pike Co., OH has an
Elizabeth married a Thomas Downing in 1818, a Margaret married a Joseph Downing in 1822
and a Samuel married Elizabeth Downing at sometime pre 1830. I NEED TO CHECK MY DATES.
Margaret Collison Downing and her husband had an older female in the household in 1820 of
the possible age of Elizabeth Cutlip Callison (over age 46) and also two females age 16-26
(Elizabeth and her sister, Margaret?) -- and the Downing family has no explanation for the
extra females. The Samuel in Kosciusko Co, IN in 1850 was born 1802 in VA and his children
born in Ohio. He named some of his children Thomas (for Downing line?) John, William (for
Callison line?) Joseph (for either Downing or Callison), George and Isaac. Sadly neither
Margaret or Elizabeth Collison Downing lived to 1850 to get ages and place of birth. We
know that Elizabeth Cutlip Callison was still living in 1812 when her father's will
was written.
Just my thoughts. You can see why I an anxious to find a direct male line from Samuel in
Kosciusko Co., IN in 1850 and 1860. He had enough sons that there should be one of two
male descendants today. Take care. Marilyn
Do
you figure that this John is Josephs brother from whom the gun came with the
note, Uncle John's?

We know that John and William Callison lived by George Cutlip in
Greenbrier Co., VA and that George Cutlip went to Bath Co and then to Ross Co.,
OH
(Pike Co., OH was taken out of Pee Pee Twp.,? Ross Co in 1815). Now to
confuse the issue of Nancy Callison Boiler -- her husband was a witness to the
will of George Cutlip in Ross Co., Ohio
We know that Elizabeth Cutlip, daughter of George, married John Callison
in 1791 Greenbrier Co., VA and we know that Elizabeth had an illigitimate
child around 1786. We don't know if this child was male or female nor who the
father was. From the looks of this will, it appears that there may be some
more land transactions involving Elizabeth since she and her sister
inherited the rest of the estate -- if there was any land involved. My gut
feeling is that the Elizabeth Collison who married a Downing in Pike Co., OH is
the same Elizabeth who married John Callison and that he was killed in the
War of 1812 in Gallia Co., OH. That Elizabeth appears to have had a
daughter, Margaret and a son, Samu
el -- who both married Downings.
