This info was on the Augusta Co. mail list but since we talked about Little
Calf pasture lately, I thought it was of interest. Take care all

There are 2 Calfpasture Rivers. The Great Calfpasture runs from what is now
the NW corner of Augusta Co. (near the town of West Augusta) ., passed
Deerfield and Goshen. At Goshen it turns east. The Little Calfpasture
follows a valley just east of the Great Calfpasture and west of Beverly
Manor. It is about 1/2 as long as the Great Calf Pasture. The 2 rivers join
just east of Goshen to form the Maury River.
Part of the Little Calf Pasture was originally in the Beverly Manor patent.
The lower half (a little north of Deerfield to Goshen) of the Great
Calfpasture was the Patton & Lewis Grant. Some of the same people show up on
the Cowpasture (which is the river over a ridge to the west of the Great
Calfpasture). Some of the people from the Little Calfpasture show up on the Jackson
River (a mountain ridge
to the west of the Cowpasture and a mountain range to the east of present
Greenbrier Co).
Most of the early inhabitants were Scots-Irish i.e. their parents or
grandparents had moved from Scotland to Northern Ireland before immigrating
to the colonies
