Just to keep the confusion in the air - I just called my aunt and she told
me what she knows about the Gillespie name - that is, the Gillespie name was
on great grandmother's side of the family (she was a Callison) and it goes
back a long way. (We knew that already.) It seems that my uncle misspelled
Gillespie when he joined the Navy during WWII (it was his middle name, too),
and my grandfather really got on him about it. He told Uncle Jimmy he
should respect the name because it was a family name and that it went back
several generations. Doesn't solve any problems, but it sounds like it was
a big deal - at least in our branch. In fact, my great grandmother called
my grandfather Gillespie (his name was John Gillespie Steele) rather than
John and so did her sister.
That is my whole two cents worth....

When it comes to the Gillespie name, you are forgetting the children of
James Callison and Ann Gillespie. They had a son John Gillespie Callison,
their son James
Callison had a son named John Gillespie Callison, and my ancestor, Samuel C.
Callison, who is assumed to be the son of James and Ann, had a son named
John Gillespie
Callison. These were all in Texas, and were descended from James and
Isabell. Samuel Callison also had a daughter named Isabell.

Hi, to all my Callison buddies. Thanks to all of you who joined this
list
and
let me know that you had joined and thanks to Rene' for giving us
the push
to
do this. I got a note from Rena which put me off on a tangent about
her
Absolem. I was trying to collect as many Absolem, Alexander, Gillespie and
Moses to see if there was ANY common denominator between the families. It
would be nice if we could establish either a William or a John connection
for
parents of these people.
I don't know if this is a correct or complete list but just flying by the
seat of my pants trying to figure it out.
1. Rena's Absolem who married Ann Flack, son of John or William?
2. Absolem (4), James (3) John (2) John Sr.(1) (son of James)
3. Absolem, (3) Elizabeth who married James Morrison (2) John (1) I feel
that
she is the daughter of John Sr. (son of James)
4. Absolem (3) William who married Marian Chapman (2) son of John or
William??? (I'll have to check on this one to make sure)
5. Absolem (3), son of Moses (2)-- son of John or William ???--even though
some say William, it is up for debate
6. Absolem (3), son of Alexander (2)-- son of John or William??--early
researchers think son of John
Are their any other Absolems in the early generations????
Gillespie
1. Elizabeth who I feel is the daughter of John Sr.
2. Absolem, son of John or William ?????
3. I'm not sure but wonder if the G. in John G. Callison, son of Hiram
(alias
Callison) was for Gillespie or not
Alexander
1. son of John or William
2. son of Hiram who was son of Moses
3. Son of Elizabeth Callison Morrison--- ?? daughter of John Sr.
Moses
1. son of John or William???/
2. grandson of John who was son of John Sr.
To the best of my knowledge there is NO Gillespie used in any line other
then
those who are thought to descend from James and Isabella. Someone
please
set
me straight on this. I have often wondered if Isabella was a
Gillespie OR
if
John Sr. was married to a Gillespie. Enjoy wondering for today. Take
care
